Re: Question for those who converted refrigerators

Like RickBeer said, it probably won't hurt to leave it in, except that it uses a small amount of electricity and continues to make noise while it cycles.

What s the make of the fridge?

Re: Question for those who converted refrigerators

The ice maker is still hooked up electrically...

There is no on/off switch, so you might want to hook it back up to water and return t to normal operation.

Second option is to remove it so you can unhook the connector for it. (do this with the fridge unplugged!)

8 ounces of sugar should be fine... It's like 19.5% of the whole...

My brain read 'pound' as it was translating to a five gallon recipe!

Original response corrected...

Re: Saison 1st Try Ever

Howdy Andy! Overall it looks good, albeit a bit complex... But that's ok. There's a good amount of wheat in there, but that's ok too! I don't think you will need the Notty unless you are just trying to use it up. That Belle Saison is a monster and with a half pound of sugar in there and a light body...

Re: Clone recipes

Byo.com and the AHA's Zymurgy magazine, and the AHA website are all very good! There are also a whole lot of good recipes shared on Beersmith's cloud, the Brewtoad.com site and a few others, but remember, sites like this also have a lot of zingers and incomplete recipes and some that can't possibly ...

Re: Getting out my hop box

How about a Brown IPA for fall?

Yank out some 2-row from your house IPA and add in some Brown Malt and some deeper Caramel malt maybe...

And hop it like an IPA...

Re: In which The Hat has an Epiphany

Ahh yes, the bubblegum...

You know, maybe a cleaner yeast at warmer temps...

Or even, dare I say it, a lager like W-34/70 fermented at 68*F or so...

That will excentuate the fruity esters and add to the orange peel and or hop flavors...

Again, experimentation required and YMMV.

Re: In which The Hat has an Epiphany

Most yeast can be coaxed into producing more esters (fruity notes) as you know by doing a number of things such as raising the fermentation temp, under pitching the yeast, using a yeast that produces more AAT (an ester precursor, think the fruitier characteristics of S-04 vs US-05). Esterification o...

Re: Zoo House Saison

Sure man, no prob... It's harder to explain than it is to do! LOL! Ok, so lets say you do up a recipe in your favorite beer software and it includes the sugar feedings and comes in at 1.060. But you make the recipe and don't add the sugar prior to pitching the yeast, and you take the OG reading and ...
