Re: Who All Ain't Shaving This Month?

Like Brewing Brother I regularly shave my neck. But the last time I did the rest of my face was May of 1976. The darn hair was dark then.

Re: Carbonation Calculator

BlackDuck: I know I am quite late to this party but I do have an answer for your question. You can use the priming sugar nomograph from Palmer’s “How to Brew” to solve your problem. Let’s say for an example, that you have a 2.5 gallon batch at 70° F and you are priming with 3 ounces of cane sugar. F...

Re: A Handy Book

I have my favorite brewing books list here... http://www.statsandbrew.com/stats%26brewlibrary.html

As you'll see, I've listed them in the order I read them as I've progressed through our obsession. I also comment on how each one has helped me progress.

Re: Show me Your Labels

I use round 3/4 inch adhesive labels (Office Depot item 600-534, Same as Avery 5408) on the top of every bottle cap. I Photoshop some background on these that is similar to the batch's full label described below to make them easier to identify in the cooler. I also Photoshop the batch description an...

Re: Left/Right brain - which kind of brewer are you?

Y'all know that bit that Jeff Foxworthy does where he says, "If you (do such and such) you might be a redneck."? Well, if your brews have fermentation notes that look like this... http://www.statsandbrew.com/Batch%20Summaries%20Recipes/033_Ferm_Plot_1309252045U.gif ...you might be a left-b...

Thanks, FD. That was like a brewer's prayer. I just got out my box of brewing gear so I can "go to church" tomorrow.

I'd like to get in if it's not too late.

Level 4 (But not many batches at that level.)

Re: Ralph's Pub and Brew

Let me just say this about that...

Use a much bigger blow-off container than you think you need in that nice room.

Don't ask why I make such a recommendation. (There was no smilie with a mop and carpet cleaner.)

Re: Bumming out over upcoming surgery

One of my bike buds had a hip replaced a few years ago at 62 years of age and within six months he was right back to smoking my butt on all the hills. Great physical condition before hand, positive thoughts and complete devotion to physical therapy seemed to be the keys to his quick recovery. I wish...

Re: BeerSmith: Gaging interest!

Already have it and am extremely pleased with it. I would gladly support the cause by buying my future upgrades here. There is a bit of a steep learning curve with BeerSmith but once you get the hang of it I don't think there is any better brewing software. The suite of tools/calculators is extremel...

Re: Has Anybody Done the Oak Chip Routine?

Thanks for the suggestions. My biggest concern was overdoing the oak so I cut the amount the recipe called for in half right off the bat. I will taste after 5 days or so and every couple of days after that. I'm hoping to stop when it has "a hint of oak".
