Re: ezBrewingWater-RO©

Thanks for this excellent tool, Vince! I had one question: the numerical values on Tab 2 / Water Profiles appear to represent additions in grams. Is this based on a 5 gallon batch? I'm trying to add my own profile and want to understand the basics on this tab. I know this thread is old, but here's ...

Re: Beer Flavour Stability in Home Brewing

Almost a year ago I did a few upgrades and started using Co2 to do closed transfers from sealed fermenters to oxygen purged kegs. Admittedly for me, using Co2 to purge oxygen from the mash or boil is something best left to the true LoDo brewers out there. But I've also replaced all the Co2 and beer ...

Re: Eight years ago today...

Happy somewhat of a belated New Year all! My brewing notes say it's been ten years since brewing my first Mr. Beer recipe. It was their West Coast Pale Ale extract recipe. Fermentation: 23-Jan-2010 to 13-Feb-2010 - (68-76F) Carbonation : 13-Feb-2010 to 27-Feb-2010 - (68-76F) Conditioning: none Judgi...

Re: Lessons Learned - 2019

Thank you all for your kind words on my retirement. I look forward to another exciting year in 2020 getting to play with the new toys. Who would have thought an LBK Christmas gift ten years ago would lead to all of this.

Re: Lessons Learned - 2019

This year I learned that.... Getting a motorized grain mill was one of the smartest things I've done. Replacing my old plastic Ale Pails with Chapman SS fermenters was one of the best things I've done. Doing Co2 closed transfers from fermenters to kegs was one of the most rewarding things I've done....

Re: High Gravity eBIAB Recirculation Manifold

I've found found that if I open my Riptide valve too much, the grain can become compacted in a certain area. I doubt this could happen with your invention as it's multi-directional but I assume it does not turn or spin, correct? You're correct, it would have to be turned by hand now. Although addin...

Re: ezRecipe Design - The Full Featured Beer Recipe Designer

ezRecipe uses an extended version of the original BeerXML 1.0 standard which was adopted in 2003. (remember qBrew?) Today the old BeerXML 1.0 standard lacks support for common features of modern beer recipe design software. Development of a more robust BeerXML 2.0 ended in 2016 without ever being fo...

Re: High Gravity eBIAB Recirculation Manifold

I ran some cold water through the recirculation manifold late yesterday with the pump wide open. The streams of water seem to have just enough force to agitate the grain bed. I'll post my results next weekend when I try it out on a 10-gallon batch. mash-manifold2-sml.jpg A nice thing about this desi...

High Gravity eBIAB Recirculation Manifold

Yesterday in an effort to increase the mash efficiency of my brewing system I put this recirculation manifold together. The HG system I have has a sprinkler installed in the lid of the kettle. The wort hits the top of the grain bed and then makes its way down to the return port at the bottom of the ...

Re: Locally Grown Whole Hop Flowers

Mine do not absorb much when I use them. I use 10 oz of my Centennial for 3 gallon batch, 6 for bitter and 4 for aroma. Comes out like a nice, lite-bite apa. I've used them both, air dried and wet (fresh off vine). The wet tends to leave a very mild grassy background. For wet hops so far the timing...

Re: Locally Grown Whole Hop Flowers

How much volume did you lose? I've read that your total water volume has to be increased substantially to account for absorption. And did you have to adjust the amount of grain to maintain all your other numbers. I whirlpooled the hops in two bags with each bag holding four ounces. Using silicon gl...
