I think you're right about the thickness of the glass as currently manufactured. Could have something to do with the needed thickness of the threads plus required thickness of the glass bottle top would be too much glass on top compared to conventional bottles. May be a reason for tradition....

Screw tops seem to work for a variety of other carbonated beverages; they work fine for PET, and the "wear out" part of the threads are in the replaceable cap, even if you used a new cap for every batch (a la conventional caps). In fact, you have "hybrid" screw tops for commercia...

As a curiosity, why no screw-cap glass bottles? Tradition? Practical reason? Seems it would eliminate some of the "cons" for both plastic and glass traditional bottling - no need for a capper, doesn't require a (horrors) swing top, easy to clean and sanitize (brush, hot water), easy to rep...

Thanks! Also brewed the MB Apple Cider, in the bottle a little longer and it seems to be developing nicely, but didn't start out with the "tang" of the Pear - I'll give it a little more legroom....

Anyone brewed MB Pear Cider? Just looking for a comparison - finished conditioning (4 weeks - added 0.5 lb lactose to the extract also before brewing) and sampled: good carbonation, clear "pear" flavor but very tart and cider-y. Hoping a few more weeks will mellow it out, but definitely dr...
