Re: Getting ever closer to the keezer build

Even if you only want two taps, I'd highly recommend making sure you have room for at least three kegs. It's great to be able to have a keg "on deck" hooked up to gas in the keezer. When one keg kicks, you unhook it, clean the lines, hook up the carbed and ready third keg, rock n roll. Oth...

Re: A very rare occasion where I think a dog needs to be put

That cat is a bad ass. As for the dog, I'm sick of owners that can't keep their aggressive dogs in their yard. Idiots. If you can't keep your dog locked up, get a freaking poodle or chihuahua! More people are bitten by Chihuahuas and toy dogs of all sorts then by big dogs. Just doesn't get as much ...

Hmmm, sounds like just enough cash to turn around and grab the shiny new Blichman BrewEasy we're talking about in another thread! Coincidence?

Re: I want one!

I've been drooling over some DIY automated recirculating RIMS and HERMS systems for quite some time, love the idea of being able to control the temperature exactly, step mash, mash out, etc.... To me, it's all about consistency and eliminating the variables. Automation is awesome. Compare this new B...

Re: Small Keg System?

One cool thing about gong with a 2.5 or 3 gallon corny like FIT's link, is if you ever do decide to move on to full size 5-gallon kegs and a keezer/kegerator, you already have all the connections! That's a big deal. I was merely day-dreaming about making the leap to kegging when I stumbled upon an i...

Re: Taking another turn at the "Groomsman's Pride"

This is one of my favorite styles to drink, kind of the "best of both worlds" when done well. Several local breweries make versions that I find quite tasty. In my recipe I use a fairly standard ipa recipe with Chrystal 60, and I add about 5% Carafa II for color and about 1.5% Chocolate mal...

Re: Cerveza help

The simplest way to turn it into an IPA/pale ale type of brew would be to pick up 2lbs of dry malt extract (or liquid extract) from a homebrew store, and 1oz of two different hops that you want to try out. I'd suggest simcoe for one if you can find it... Bring a gallon and a half or two gallons to a...

Re: Blonde / Cream Ale Adventure

Munich might give a good flavor as well... I've brewed my recipe about five-six times with adjustments and tweaks along the way, I ended up adding less than 5% biscuit malt just to give it that little extra malty/bready flavor. It worked great. Munich might do something similar (especially if you've...

Re: Blonde / Cream Ale Adventure

Hey, when I do a hop boil it is never beyond 15 minutes. Even a ten minute boil adds bitterness. I usually do a 1-2 oz boil for 10 minutes, so basically all I ever do is flavor and aroma. You still get IBU. Remember that hop boiling chart is for MAXIMUM utilization, so even in a 10 minute boil I ca...

Re: Blonde / Cream Ale Adventure

You don't have to boil extract for 60 minutes unless you want/need a 60 minute hop addition for your recipe. That's what the statement is.

Either you're misreading it, or I'm completely missing the point of where his statement is wrong.... Either way, cheers and happy hump day.

Re: Blonde / Cream Ale Adventure

If you are feeling hoppy, you can always add a bunch of flavor/aroma hops to your basic cream ale to make a great pale ale. Nice balance between malty goodness, and refreshing hops! Hey, when I do a hop boil it is never beyond 15 minutes. Even a ten minute boil adds bitterness. I usually do a 1-2 o...

Thanks all. I didn't post this looking for a bunch if cyber high-fives, but rather to point out what a great tool these contests can be. Get the feedback, adjust accordingly, and your beer will only get better. Great resource. If you haven't entered one, do it! Thanks for the kindness, but the truth...
