Haha! I did this exact thing when I pulled the lid off the Screwer in Rye a few weeks ago. Then I did it to an empty keg I had pressurized from moving over a year ago. That was a little more intense. I depressurised, pulled the lid and gave it a whiff to see if it smelled like soda from a batch I bo...

Sorry for the late response Brewbirds. I change the poppits and all the seals on the kegs to get rid of any off flavor sand to prevents leaks.

I've got one to throw out there. All my friends and even myself used to make Porter and Stouts using enlish ale yeast. But I made the switch to Irish ale yeast after not having some English on hand. Welcome to the Borg! Brew what ever size you want. Most of us started with 2 gal batches and worked up. I still do small batches to perfect recipes or try new ones. Keep us informed on your batches!

Congrats on the move to kegging! You are going to love it! Besides the already given advice, I would tell you to not stress about using CO2 for purging, cleaning, etc. a cylinder will last a lot longer you think. Just make sure to leak check everything and you'll be good for many batches. Welcome to...
