Re: Adding DME to HME

It will clump. turn the heat on, and stir with a wisk occasionally. As it heats up, the DME will break down more. Bring it to a boil, and it should all disolve. Previously I boiled the water, added the HME, and while still hot added the DME. I assume you are saying to do all of that (DME in cold wa...

Re: Adding DME to HME

.... No hop boil, dump in, mix well to dissolve then press on with pride. Is it normal for the DME to clump and be difficult to break up? That is what mine did but I got it dissolved finally. But still had to lift out some clumps that would not break up. But then it clumped up in the fermenter. I h...

I had read that holding the wort at 170° - 180° for ten minutes would insure sterilization. Not Necessary? Does it hurt anything?

Re: Brewdemon conical fermenter

Thanks for the info.

I have a spectrometer. Is the way to tell if the brew is done fermenting to determine when the specific gravity (or brix) stops changing?

Re: Introducing....

Everyone, thanks for the warm welcome. You're such a mellow bunch. I love it. Howdy How do you like the brew demon? I'm using a Mr. Beer kit but am intrigued by the conical design of the brew demon. My only concern is that it seems that it would take up more space, and for me space is at a premium. ...

Re: Brewdemon conical fermenter

.....although half a pouch may not cause much of a problem.

FYI, the full pouch was for a 5 gal batch and I added half that to a 2-1/2 gal batch.

Re: Brewdemon conical fermenter

Thanks!! My research indicates that a second ferment gets the trub away from the fermenting brew. The trub drain in the bottom seems to accomplish that. Awesome. So if I understand, letting the trub out the bottom then fermenting a while longer would accomplish the same thing less work and less chan...

Brewdemon conical fermenter

I have a Brewdemon conical fermenter which I think is pretty cool. I live in an apartment so this works pretty good for not having a lot of room. I am using pre-hopped wort but I want to expand my skills without going the route of making wort form scratch. All the kit recipes say ferment for a week ...

Hi. New here. On my 3rd batch. Using a 2.5 gal Brewdemon Conical fermenter and pre-hopped wort. Moved from Northern Front Range Colorado (home of New Belgium Brewing and the microbrew capital of the world.....I'm just sayin') where everybody home brews (really well!) and most pubs have at least a do...
