I do realize that but thanks for not assuming so. Even so it's always worth a try.mashani wrote:The answer is it depends.......As far as conditioning, long conditioning times can fix many things, but not all things. Patience is good. But there are some kinds of off flavors that will never go away.

Re: Fermentation length.
The reason always goes back to whether you have a hydrometer/refractometer, or not. If not, it becomes what is the safest option to avoid bottle bombs while not sitting on the trub so long as to cause off-flavors. Depending on the beer and yeast, it could be done in a week if you can check it. Thre...

Fermentation length.
I have a wheat beer that was very active in the initial fermentation. It has calmed down now (about 5 days in). I would like opinions as to how long fermentation should be and what the reasoning behind the opinion is. In researching here and on other boards it seems like I got a lot of opinions but ...

Another QBrew question
If I change the Weight of the LME/HME from 3.9 lb (full can) to 1.95 lb (half can) do I also change the hops from 1.00 oz to 0.50 oz (that effects the bitterness by half)
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Glossary!
I would like to add NMCWB for Newbie Mad Chemist Wanna Be. It is a newbie who experiments way more than his knowledge base can support resulting in not so great brews but he can't help himself and keeps doing it anyway. He is a slow learner. Disclaimer: this acronym is not in common use on the Beer ...

Re: Munton's Connoisseurs Wheat Recipe
That's why using software like QBrew, available free from http://www.screwybrewer.com, is so helpful. You can put the ingredients in the way they are supposed to be brewed, then change it to the way you want and compare the difference. It's easy to use, and then you'll have your answer...... OK. I ...

Re: Munton's Connoisseurs Wheat Recipe
That Muntons HME is hopped to make 6 gallons of beer, not 2.5. So it will be much more bitter then a wheat beer is supposed to be. If that floats your boat then that's ok, but it's something you should be aware of. Half a can of it plus 1# of wheat extract would probably make a good LBC wheat beer....

Re: BrewDemon Conical Fermentor
I saw this BD Conical mod in another thread here. The bottom of the BD Conical has a flat spot just big enough to drill a hole and put a spigot in the bottom. I got the largest one I could find. So what I do is ferment for about 4 or 5 days, then drain the trub out through the bottom. It's like doin...

Munton's Connoisseurs Wheat Recipe
I saw a recipe for a 2.5 gal batch on the Brew Demon site that used 2 cans of HME and 1 lb of DME yielding a high ABV (I don't remember the exact number). Since I always dance to the beat of a different drummer no matter who is drumming, I decided to try this similar but uniquely mine recipe: 1.8 kg...

Re: Best Brand of HME?
I got a couple of the Brewferm HMEs on sale from my LHBS and I made those up in my LBK. I thought they were pretty tasty for Belgian beers but most of the Belgian beers aren't really my favorite so take that with a grain of salt. Like a lot of NMCWB's the thing that I dream of at night is making a ...

Re: Adding DME to HME
Interesting. In theory the HME is already sterile from the canning process, but I can't see how it could hurt anything. I'm also assuming you sterilize the can opener and the top of the can. I was not under the impression that DME was necessarily sterile. That was another question I had....is the D...
