Re: New Clear Fermenter Now Available!
All I did was cut a small hole in the bottom of a black plastic garbage bag for the airlock to fit through, and it keeps it in the dark the whole time. I use an old black sweatshirt as a carboy cover, with the airlock sticking up through the neck hole. It looks a bit like a store mannequin gone hor...

Re: all grain kits.. mixed or not?
Northern Brewer also carries a few 3-gallon BIAB all-grain kits. I know that they make them per order, because I walked into the store to buy one last month and couldn't even find a shelf for them. I asked about it, and they printed out the ingredients list & instructions and offered to either m...

Re: Cooking with Beer.
Best chili recipe I've seen calls for 13 ounces of beer. Why 13? Because it comes in 12oz bottles, and now the chef has gotta take care of that leftover 11oz right away....

Re: wort burn
Got the stovetop cleaned, just in time for the next brewday this week. I'd already tried scrubbing with powdered cascade (the dishwasher soap, not the hop) and gotten halfway...then I used Buzzard's suggestion of Oxyclean paste and got about 90% of the way. Philm00x & John Sand, I finished off w...

Re: wort burn
That is one of the reasons I have been banished to the garage.... I've muttered something like that several times...that if I'd only I'd been using a propane burner outside, I wouldn't care so much about spills! At least I was smart enough to buy a black stove so the char isn't visible from a dista...

Re: What are you brewing/bottling?
Bottling night tonight. Working on two batches...actually, just a batch and a half. The first batch is a simple 2-gallon batch of Mr. B's St. Patrick's Stout with some dark DME and steeped carapils added to make it a little richer. Should be in good shape by 3/17! The second batch is a small 1-gallo...

wort burn
On my last brewing day I dripped wort onto my kitchen stove while lifting a BIAB bag out of the kettle. I thought it was only a few drops, so I figured it was no big deal and I kept right on cooking. It was only my second all-grain batch and I hadn't realized how sugary the water had become just fro...

Re: Big Mouth Bubbler Review
Bluejaye, you asked about the capacity. Before using it I filled it with water 0.5 gallon at a time and marked the side, but I stopped marking at 3.5 gallons -- sorry. It looks like 5 gallons would take this right up to the point at which the bottle starts narrowing, so there'd still be a little roo...

Re: Big Mouth Bubbler Review
I needed another fermenter so I bought one of these yesterday and loaded it up last night. I really like it so far. I usually brew 2-3 gallon batches, so I only got the 5 gallon size. I had to have a clerk explain the shape of lid to me. It actually has a built-in airlock, which would let me fit thi...

Greetings, Borg!
Greetings, BeerBorg! Glad I found you guys. I used to lurk on Ye Olde Site; I didn't chime in much but I learned TONS by reading about your exploits. In the past three years I've moved from straight-up Mr. Beer kits in the LBK, to extract & grain kits from the local homebrew stores, to BIAB reci...
