Just started another batch of beer over the weekend.

This one is the Nut Brown flavor. it should be ready to bottle when I come back from Philly after Labor Day. :)

Re: Fermentation length.

I have a wheat beer that was very active in the initial fermentation. It has calmed down now (about 5 days in). I would like opinions as to how long fermentation should be and what the reasoning behind the opinion is. In researching here and on other boards it seems like I got a lot of opinions but...

Re: wort burn

Luckily, mine only calls for boiling the water, and then pouring the beer base into the hot boiled water to make the wort! That way, it does not overcook or boil over, creating that burnt mess that you've had to clean up. :hammer:

Even the brown one must not be exposed to sunlight during the fermenting process. :hammer:

Re: Fermentation length.

I started a batch of hard apple cider beer last Wednesday. Was going to bottle it yesterday, but it still looks like it is fermenting. So I'll check it tomorrow.

Re: BDC Spigot Failure: Crying over Spilt Beer. UPDATE

I've been there and know just exactly how it feels to lose beer that's fermenting! I hope that doesn't ever happen again.

Yeah, also hopefully, Brewdemon will also someday offer more sturdier ones that won't break as easily. :clink:

Here's some deep fried drumsticks & wings that I marinated in a beer marinade in the fridge for a few hours before deep frying them the next day. :hammer:

I've seen Emeril Laggase use beer in some of HIS recipes on his show Emeril Live. :hammer:

Cooking with Beer.

Have any of you ever prepared a meal that you'd use beer in?

I was wondering about this and came across a few cookbook recipes in the past, such as beer batter chicken that is usually deep fried. :hammer:

Re: Hello, Everyone! I'm Shermie!

Thanks, guys! I'm still fairly new at home brewing beer. What has sparked my interest was when I saw online, the kit with the 1-gallon glass jug that comes with hops to make IPA. I found out that that kit involves a lot more work, so I looked at other kits, such as Mr. Beer and others. I chose the B...

Re: I f****d up.

I thought about that as well. But what I do now is put some cold water into the fermenter with the spigot secured and fastened to see if it will leak at all. I never knew that the spigot was so delicate and sensitive! They actually sent me TWO spigots, but I'll order a few more just to keep on hand ...

Re: I f****d up.

A similar screw-up happened to me, but it wasn't with the One-Step Sanitizer. The spigot was loose and the wort started leaking from the fermenter! Tightened it, and it leaked even more!! Turns out that if the nut for the spigot is tightened too much, the thread will break from the spigot. I lost a ...
