Re: Infected Batch?

Islands, no islands... The yeast will do as they please... T-58 tends to form islands more often than not, but not always... Drink on, sounds like you made some fine brews there! :borg: Thank you, interesting experience . . . to say the yeast! ;) I'll keep all the great information, advice and expe...

Re: Infected Batch?

I had meant to mention this before, but yeast islands like that are *very common* with T-58. So anyone who uses T-58 should expect to see that sort of thing. I figured as much in retrospect when I bottled it despite what I'd never seen before; it was my first time using that T-58 yeast. What REALLY...

Thank you! I very much appreciate the shared expertise here and am really glad I listened to the voice in my novice head that said "just bottle it", figure out the rest later!

Re: Infected Batch?

"When in doubt, ship it out". So I'll be expecting to receive it sometime soon, ok Bob? I've "shipped out" many times while in the Navy but I'm glad I didn't send this batch to sea you! Sampled a bottle yesterday, it had been six weeks lagering at room temp so I tossed one...

Re: Newb Assimilating

Welcome to the Crazy Train! You have yourself a nice little pipeline forming there already......I need to kick myself in the ass and get brewing. I kind of sloughed off in 2014 thus far but redeemed myself by brewing to batches on back to back weekends not too long ago. You'll find that this place ...

Re: Newb Assimilating

Thank you ALL for the kind hospitality and valuable assistance I’ve already received from folks in the beginner forum. Had a White IPA that formed a yeast cake which I have NEVER encountered before, thought it was infected but bottled it I anyway . . . come to find out, consensus is I made the right...

Re: Newb Assimilating

A hearty thanks to you and your late father for your service! Anyone who enlisted during WWII and brewed beer, too, is a hero in my book. :D Too bad a recipe or two didn't get handed down, but the inclination to brew obviously did, and that's cool all by itself. Thank you very much for acknowledgin...

"When in doubt, ship it out". So I'll be expecting to receive it sometime soon, ok Bob? But with all joking aside, they are spot on, nothing to worry about with that batch. :shower: Too funny dude! :fedora: I wouldn't have bothered bottling it if I hadn't discarded my aversion to wh...

Re: Infected Batch?

I did the White IPA quite some time ago, and I think I remember having that same stuff. I agree with Papa, just some yeast cakes floating around. You should be fine. Did you taste a bit when you bottled? Thank you for further reassuring me BD! Nah, I didn’t taste that stuff! The mere thought of it ...

Re: Infected Batch?

Thank you!

I bottled it on day 21 when this picture was taken. Got seven quarts before the bottling wand filled with chunks so I quit. The bottled batch is over three weeks in bottle and close to sampling.

I guess the proof will be in the sampling . . . :(

Infected Batch?

Newb here . . . Does this batch have an STD? I tried digging through the 105 pages of beer infection information on the Mr. Beer forum but I’m only human! I wanted to post up a picture of this but forgot my login password and though I spent days requesting a reset I never got a response. Yup, I chec...

Re: Newb Assimilating

If you have any recipes that were handed down by your father or grandfather, that would be a very cool goal to have -- to brew a recipe handed down within the family. Thanks CC . . . yup that would be very cool, unfortunately my GPA passed long before I was born and my Father didn't return to brewi...

As an aside Borg, I’m not receiving automatic notification of message replies to this post in my personal email inbox. I have scoured the FAQs and user settings to no avail. Have I just overlooked a setting or is that not a feature this forum software offers? Never mind! It appears that one must &q...

Re: Newb Assimilating

Many thanks for the warm welcome Borg! Bluejaye . . . yeah, I have a 26 year old Daughter. She doesn't have the time to take up brewing between work demands and play interests. Her boy friend has a taste for great Beers and Bourbons, her . . . not so much. I inherited a bunch of Miller Lite when my ...
