Homebrewcon
I've been totally out of pocket from here for far too long. Did anyone else attend homebrewcon this year in Baltimore? If so what were your thoughts overall? Did you get to try any local MD homebrew club beers or anyone else's beers that were particularly memorable? Sorry if this is a repeat, doing ...

Re: Blichmann Beer Gun
On page 2 I explained that my friends beergun gave me a lot of issues. Thankfully mine seems to work perfectly. I do not know where the difference came from that would have cause it. This will definitely make bottling for competitions much easier with consistent results.

Re: Blichmann Beer Gun
I finally got around to testing out my beerguns, yes I said guns. I originally ordered a beergun from China and let me tell you this was a TERRIBLE idea. The first beergun I got had a defective gas valve. I tried to get a refund but instead settled on them sending me another beergun. Both took 20 da...

Re: Preparing For The Impending Snowmagopolypse!
Luckily I didn't hit that wednesday madness on my way into work but some of my friends and coworkers did. I've stocked up on some essentials but mainly that being wood in case power outage. I have a fireplace so I will make use if needed. I have LOTS of beer to drink, about 11 gallons I would say an...

Re: Arrrg... Fighting with the liquid side of a new used keg
You can buy cheap bulk o-rings on Amazon and if you have prime it's free shipping. I'm going to post all the links below. The dip tube o-rings are so cheap I change them out EVERY time so I never have to worry about any issues. Has not failed me yet. Pack of 100 rubber dip tube o-rings. If you prefe...

Re: Blichmann Beer Gun
Well I'm not sure who might agree with me but from what I read I would think your beer was over carbonated....or... Turns out the black beer post connector I was using to connect my 5 gallon corny keg to a new Perlick Beer Faucet was bad. I took it apart and cleaned it and couldn't see anything wro...

Re: Blichmann Beer Gun
I did try with chilled bottles. Also, I turn off the gas, purge, and then fill with about 5 psi.

Re: Blichmann Beer Gun
I've been kegging for a while and have had a history of issues trying to bottle from the keg. I have a perlick tap adapter and bottling wand which does not do a good job and foams too much. I currently just bottle straight from the top which actually gives me better results. In both cases I turned t...

Water adjustments
I am not sure how many of you do water adjustments but I feel like you all should be. Since I started doing mine, my beers have really improved. I have won multiple awards since I started doing water additions. I was getting high 20s to low/mid 30s prior but since I started I have not received a sco...

Re: Grain mill settings
I set my monster mill 3 to 0.038". I did however measure from 0.032" up to 0.042" so that I can change on the fly if needed. I have never needed to as my crush at 0.038" gets me very good efficiency.

Re: Saison fermenting locale
Just want to add that the closet will be fine. I ferment my saisons out of my fermentation chamber and ambient room temps are around 73F. I let the yeast increase temps as they like and don't really bother any control. I have found this approach works best for saison/belgian yeasts. My latest saison...

Re: Cool Brew Cold Crash? Or Just Keg?
I don't think you would be able to get it cold enough (32-34F) for long enough (48 +- 12/24 hours) in the cool brew bag. I would just keg and with the cold temps it will clear up but take a few extra days.

Re: SO approved a chest freezer
I do plan to cold crash now that I can.
Also, I had purchased an Eva-Dry dehumidifier in preparation, so it's already in.

Re: SO approved a chest freezer
The Cool Fermentation bag worked great for me but the trick is to start with a cooler wort. The first 12 hours were key and it greatly helped my beers but in the end, the freezer won out for me too. Just too easy and foolproof. For me it worked better than swamp cooler but in the end the temperatur...
