Great idea guys! I never thought of saving the sample and using that same pull for later SG testing. I usually just drank mine! I think I’ll be changing my process on future batches. Thanks for the tip!

Re: Holy Cow Beer-Lord!
My bad! I was reading on my phone and had been having some issues with accessing the site. Anyway, so much for my poor excuse, but I thought I was in the Brewhouse and saw all of these "new" topics from you and I thought they popped up in just a few hours. It wasn't until later I re...

Re: Post your screw up/mistake here
Hey All! I'm 4 weeks out from my accident and recovery is on schedule per my Dr. My prognosis is still looking good, but it will still be 2 months before we have a good idea how complete my recovery will be. The good news is that last night my son helped me keg the batch I was working on when I had ...

Re: Post your screw up/mistake here
New Lesson... Glass Carboys + mistake = trouble So I was emptying a glass carboy full of Starsan last Thursday night when it slipped out of my hands, hit the edge of my sanitary tub and shattered, slashing my right wrist in the process. After a loud crash, and louder scream for help on my part, my w...

Re: Post your screw up/mistake here
Well, the yeast must have been fine because right now I could really use a bigger blow off tube. At this point, that's a really good thing!

Re: Post your screw up/mistake here
So I dropped the yeast I thought I killed by freezing onto an Imperial Stout I brewed this evening. OG was 1.087. Fingers crossed! After a couple of day delay the yeast starter looked normal so I went for it. I'm thinking BP was on the money with his advice. Thanks Brian!

Re: Post your screw up/mistake here
Thanks BP! It is still fermenting away in the starter so I think I'll let it go a while longer to give it time to finish. No hurry on the brew day.

Re: Post your screw up/mistake here
I guess I spoke too soon. I woke up this morning to an active fermenting starter. There is a second lesson for me here - patience! Anyone have any insight to the health of yeast that may have gotten too cold? This is going into a rather high gravity beer and I'd hate to compound mistakes. That being...

Re: Post your screw up/mistake here
I killed my yeast. Yup. Killed it dead. Well most of it anyway. It was a Wyeast smack pack. When I smacked it, I thought the pack felt a bit crunchy, like it iced up. I was storing it on the bottom shelf in the fridge and it must have gotten too cold. I was making a starter with it and when very lit...

Two-Hearted is my goto beer, but I live in Bell's country. I love most ALL Bell's beers. Being in the Chicago suburbs, I also have a a second home near Kalamazoo, the hometown of Bell's. All that being said, the Pliny clones are really among my favorites, as well as the favorites of my friends. All ...

Really cool! Keep us posted on your other classes. Also I see where Evily came from now, a character away from Emily, I guess that is available far more often than your real name for an ID. I was going to ask about that... From what I understand, when she was in college, she received a package addr...

Re: Nobody warned me...
It wasn't really a mistake, but a gamble I lost. I have three sets of ingredients to fill the three other empty kegs I have but I just ran out of time. With two kids graduating and moving them both (one back home and one out of the house) I just hoped the first keg would last longer. Boy the beer go...
