Re: Frozen Beer
IF they didn't blow or crack the bottles, don't worry about it. I had a batch *accidentally freeze* a few times so I just scooped the ice off, bottled the rest. Only thing that happened to mine was the flavor was enhanced and the ABV, well, we'll say it was extremely strong..... hehehe If you think ...
Re: champagne
I just can't wrap my head around this one. 5lbs of sugar water strained over fruit then yeast? I don't do champane, but it can't be this simple, makes my throat want to close and say no way in heck. Remind me, what happens when you put 5lbs of sugar in beer? Especially in one point five gallons of b...

Re: Honey Rye Cream Ale - RCE
Tapped this last weekend, dayum!! Yea, ya need to put this back on your list. I think after this, I may do as a straight lager from now on. This is the best is has ever been and they have all been great brews. It's a lot more work to do as a lager but this batch has convinced me to do it this way fr...

Re: Cleaner
Small suggestion, your going to leave it to it's own devices for 2 weeks, I would suggest placing the carboy into a container, large rubbermaid or such just incase it blows it's lid and comes rushing out all over. I've had it happen.Disasterdave wrote:off to the Washington coast for 2 weeks then home and bottle it.

Re: What are you brewing/bottling/kegging?
Weighed out/crushed my grains/hopes for a wheat brew today. Was going to brew it but my better half wanted the kitchen for baking. I said I'll wait..... she makes great cookies! I'll brew on the morrow if she's not.... baking..... again sat. All I have left is some ass kicking cider and half a case ...

Welcome to the forum from the frozen tundra of eastern Norf Dakoota! (Grand Forks area) I've dabbled in meads but love doing hard ciders!

Re: Honey Rye Cream Ale - RCE
I'm still brewing this recipe! Pretty much stuck to the original version, have done as an ale, was good but is soo much better with both yeasts. Had not brewed for a bit as my brewing/lager freezer had died but replaced it last year and brought this recipe back to life. It's a house staple, rare is ...

Re: Boost ABV?
I used to chase high ABV when I first started but found most lacking in flavor, many actually tasting pretty bad. I have since discovered I can make an awesome tasting beer keeping it between 4.5 to 7%. When I need to kick up the ABV, I take shots of a good scotch with my beer. Now hard cider... tha...

Re: Isolation brewing
Nothing has changed for me. Wife and I are retired, at home anywayz. Only thing it affected was our travel plans, no visit to daughter/family in Washington, family in Indiana, campgrounds closing so can't go camping in commercial parks. But yea, I'm going to use this time to brew, catch up on house ...

Re: First time brewer
I run 3 to 3.5 weeks, occasionally 4 and never a problem. Then I condition from 2 months, up to a year depending on the recipe/style. I have a couple cases going on 5 years, it's just mellowing to a nice beer.

Re: electric brewing??
I have a GrainFather and love it! But it is spendy. I also have a converted elec. turkey fryer that works great, small and cheap. I put it togather after a thread with instructions, was simple. I don't remember if it was on here on an arrogant forum I won't even mention without throwing up in my mou...

Re: Brewing Equipment you would like.
I have everything needed to brew over flame or elec. Only thing I would like is a kegorator (have a full size fridge in the garage converted) but would like to have a smaller/portable one. I would like a couple more 5 gallon kegs. Well, maybe the equipment needed to make hard lick-her with my Grainf...

Re: Sabro hops, $14 a pound
Would be a great deal if I did not have a freezer full of hops, both pellet and fresh (frozen) hops from my garden. Still....... I bet it would be good in an IPA.

Re: Cleaning tap lines
What's worked for me over the years, empty a keg, clean it out, put some Star Sans in keg, pressurize, blow some of this through the lines. Empty, put some distilled water in keg, pressurize, blow lines with d/water then C02. Next keg in and enjoy. Never had a problem. Oh, every 3-4 times, before do...
