We go through a lot of water softener salt. I have to change out the sediment filters just about weekl...

To me, does not matter if a cider or ale, etc. I don't usualyy touch mine for 3 weeks. I just kegged a hard cider I transferred into a secondary and let sit another 3 months. I don't use kit recopies though, I use straight grain for ale or juice from my trees or frozen from the store, I give it time...

Re: IPA recipe check
If you can harden your water with some gypsum or the like it will turn out even better. You don't have to but a bit of minerally character and hops that zing a bit more are appropriate for this. I have a vial of gypsum, how much should I put in for 3 gallons? Or do I need to shoot for a certian ph?

Mash at 152 for 90 min, Mash out at 168 for 10 min. 1 pack of S-04. Ferment 3 weeks, force carb for 1 week, drink up. This is bas...

Re: What are you brewing/bottling/kegging?
Keg'd 5 gallons of Honey Hard Cider this morn. Used 6 gallons of juice from our apple trees, one lb lactose and 2 lbs clover honey (those 2 added at keg time). Fermented 3 weeks, removed trub bottle and let condition in fast ferment vessel for 2 months. Treated with pot. sorbate to prevent a ferment...

Hard cider with a slight sweet/honey background. Light and very refreshing but oh so high of an ABV, can't taste the 14%. Time for another one.

Re: Mash and boil questions
Enjoy! I'm late to the party as normal but I picked up a GrainFather and love it. I use the pump every batch and love how I can create and run the brew session from my phone. One of the reasons I went with the GF was you can buy some accessories for it and make a small batch of hard stuff. I'm going...
