Re: Take 2

Back at being back. The brown turned out pretty good, but life got busy, so it's all I've done until now. Right now my porter is on the boil. Last time I made it, it tasted great, but was over-carbonated or had a bug, and led to 2 bottle bombs before I blew the caps off the rest. Here's hoping for a...

Take 2

Hey everyone! I'm back again, after not brewing since early last summer. I've had too many issues that it's taken the joy out of making my own beer: -Gravities coming out lower than expected after boil, even though they're spot on after the mash, leading to much lower ABV (like 3%) than planned. -Be...

Re: Least Favorite/ Can't Stand Craft Breweries

I agree with Abita, I haven't liked any of their stuff I've tried.

Re: I guess this just confirms human nature

Well shoot. I guess my Hopwork Orange should be pretty high up that list. Only 25 bottles were produced this year, and only 2 remain as of this writing, exclusively at my house, where only 1 person has been known to crack them open.

Re: D-IPA Input requested

Just wanted to chime in here to say that I tried the final half bottle "tester" last night, and aside from being a bit darker than anticipated, and slightly under-carbonated for how I'm hoping the rest turn out, it was delicious. Looking forward to a bit more conditioning and a lot more dr...

Re: How not to make beer

It's become a train wreck. I can't not look. Here's the answer for the krausen, btw.

Re: D-IPA Input requested

Well, It's fermenting, so now just a matter of time to see how it turned out. Ended a little lower than expected, but apparently that's normal for homebrewing high gravity beers. Still 1.072 is what went in to the LBK, just shy of the 1.079 I had built up in BeerSmith.

Re: D-IPA Input requested

i use BeerSmith, which gives me the data just fine into the fermenter. I'm just not sure how much hops to add for the dry hopping in the secondary, as they all list 0 IBUs following the boil.

Re: D-IPA Input requested

Also, how much hops are recommended for dry hopping a "2" gallon batch? I'm worried about over doing it, but also worried about not getting the hop kiss from using too little.

Re: D-IPA Input requested

I appreciate the feedback so far! I thought the Munich might be a bit much, but used that to get in the "green" zone for coloring. I have dialed back to 10% and upped the Golden Promise. I thought playing with 10 minute additions of hops might make for an interesting profile, but seems lik...

D-IPA Input requested

I'm not a hophead, as I tend to prefer malty beers like browns and porters. However, on Monday I'm planning on attempting a double IPA. I like my hops more citrus-y and less grassy, and have come up with the following plan. Let me know if anything seems off-kilter with the recipe: 71% Golden Promise...

Re: What are you brewing/bottling?

Bottled 2ish gallons each of my Oktoberfest and Pale Ale yesterday. Fired up a brown today, hoping it gets some nuttiness from the Victory malt as I've seen suggested.
