Re: What are you brewing/bottling/kegging?

Finally got above freezing today, around 50, so I did my Bitter to tide me over the heart of busy season at school. Made my first 10 gallon batch, which I've had the capacity for, but never the desire. Using a Belgian yeast, wlp500, in the other 5 G to experiment how that goes. All in all, good to g...

Re: Need a wort chiller recommendation

I bought a 25’ 3/8” to start and it was fine. Then I borrowed my neighbors homemade 50’ and realized how much faster it was. Then I built my own hydra, which I currently use. I’d recommend the 50’ if you are just starting out.

Re: Least Favorite/ Can't Stand Craft Breweries

I'll throw a few in as well... Schlafly, Sweetwater, Rivertown, Devil's Backbone, Terrapin, Against the Grain, BBC, Ballast Point, Troegs, Highland... I'm surprised by Against the Grain being on this list. I know they over "imperialize" just about everything, but I do enjoy their stuff us...

Hey! Welcome to the Borg! Good to see another brewer from this area. I'm over in Jeffersonville. Where are you?

Re: ezRecipe-RO - Latest Version Now Available

I didn’t realize I could save my local profile. I just assumed it started with RO for some reason. Reckon I’ll play with it.

And here, I just figured out Bru’n Water.

Re: Least Favorite/ Can't Stand Craft Breweries

For the record, Magic Hat is not craft either. But, to the point, when I visited Goose Island in Chicago, it was pretty terrible too. I thought they'd be better at the source, and tried to ignore the AB influence. But it was underwhelming at best.

Re: Pressure Cooker

You guys are selling me on this thing! We use our crock pot all the time through winter. Stews, soups, lately making pumpkin butter. Every now and then, we forget the meal plan and have to scramble to feed the kiddos, so the shorter time will really help! We can the old way with a boil pot. My wife ...

Re: What are you brewing/bottling?

I just tapped my milk stout last weekend. Delicious! Today, I'm rebrewing a black IPA I haven't done in two years. It's a bit crisp out this morning, but it's clear and should be a fine day to brew!

Re: Just bought a BrewDemon Conical

Does anyone know what the maximum temperature this BrewDemon Conical Fermenter can handle? I am worried with how thin the plastic is hitting it with hot wort. Thanks I don't know exactly, but the old LBKs were like 140*. You should cool your wort in the pot before adding it in. Sent from my iPad us...

Re: Where did everyone go?

Sorry about your loss, Leigh. I've haven't been on in a bit either because we are also going through some stuff. My wife's job has been horrible since the school year started, and she took an FMLA leave for anxiety as a result. We're trying to avoid her slipping back into major depression. Obviously...

Re: I ain't gonna brew no pumpkin spice beer

I bought short fills of Pumking for $3/bomber the one time I visited Southern Tier. It's usually about $7.99 around here, and I'm good for 1 annually. I also found it on draft last year for $4/pint.

Re: New to home brewing

Welcome! My wife is celiac, so I use ClarityFerm in most of my beers. She doesn't usually drink them, but at least she can. YMMV, but it's worth an experiment for you and opens up many styles as a homebrewer. As for ciders, I've made a few, mostly the stupid easy version you can find on here. Even t...
