Re: My Wife Saved a Life This Week

Very impressive.

I think we would all love to be able to do the right thing if put in the same situatuation. Not everybody would.

Re: Why do you do what you do?

Got a MrBeer kit for Christmas. Just a couple weeks later, Chug launched the MrBeerFans forum. The original lot over there went through the whole learning curve together. We learned through trial and error yet we all didn't have to make each of those errors ourselves. Somebody over there turned me o...

Re: Double Crushing Your Grains For Greater Efficiency

How much would just giving it an added stir or two during the mash? You won't lose much heat if any and those enzymes aren't swimming around in there. They could use a little help, right?

Re: Tell me why I need a refractometer

Short answer.... you don't. If you brew smaller batches, you might. For a 5 gallon brew, a couple of hydro samples simply isn't that much and I drink both of those anyway :) No real need for 3 samples. I would take both preboil and post boil samples when I first started brewing. I haven't done a pre...

Re: Bitter and Mild Like Substance

A few years back I entered a competition. It was a franken beer competition where your entry had to have aspects of two different styles. This sounds like a beer that might have done well.

Re: Enough was enough

Very pretty ride. It does make you scratch your head a bit why they tried so hard to move that car. I would assume those particular models sell themselves. Only 2 things that come to my mind. 1. It's a manual transmission. Those have not been selling very well the past several years. Not even in sp...

Re: Upcoming hop shortage

I tend to brew more malt forward beers simply because shelves are packed with IPAs... and not much more. The prices get too high for quality hops and homebrewers will do what they always do, express their creativity.

However, I don't blame hop growers for squeezing every penny out of their product. After all, it is their product.

Re: Life gets in the way...

When it rains, it pours. Sometimes just getting a chance to vent can help. I truly believe things even out. For every good day there is a bad. For every bad day a good. Sounds like you've got some good days coming out there somewhere. It is just a matter of working yourself towards them.

Re: Reading The Classics

Another one I've been getting lately is a phone call from technical support. They tell me I've got a virus and they'll help me get rid of it. I usually hang up, but every once in a while, I'll play along, but act confused when they give me instructions and eventually tell them my computer is a mac ...

Re: Dale's Pale Ale or Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

I think I'm with you. Nothing against Dale's Pale Ale, but it is definitely an IPA in my opinion. SNPA might be dated, but it is still a classic APA in my mind. It is a good touchstone beer I think all should have every now and then. SNPA, Boston Lager, etc. It is good to return to some of those bee...

Re: Do conicals ferment differently?

There was an old Brewing Network episode where they discussed fermenter shape and how different shapes did ferment a bit different. It was an old episode and I have no idea which.
