Re: Banjo-guy retur

Welcome back, Banjo.

My brother had gout a while back, but he's got it under control, and he enjoys a beer now and again. I think it helps to stay active, which he does. In any case, do what your doctor recommends; they're the experts.

Me, I have bad knees, but walking on the regular helps a lot.

Re: Brewery recommendations

I was thinking Western Massachusetts would be a good option. Only a couple hours drive from my house, and then some rambling day to day after that. This is looking quite promising. I shall investigate further.

Re: What are you brewing/bottling/kegging?

I had quite a busy brew-related weekend. Saturday I kegged the Ottertoberfest. It was brewed back in March, and it's been cold-conditioning in the lager fridge at around 32º for quite some time. I'm really looking forward to tapping that in a week or so! Sunday I brewed the Littlejohn's Ale, a milk ...

Re: Brewery recommendations

can't find my notes on the place but the Genessee Country Museum looks to be the one. have you been there? looking forward to visiting in 2024. turns out it's to the west of syracuse lol ... :fedora: I have been there, but it was years ago. Also, the brewery was closed, and when a member of our gro...

Re: Brewery recommendations

HerbMeowing, are you referring to Genessee Country Museum? or Museum Village at Smith's Clove, which is in Orange County, NY? The former is in Rochester, and I've been to Rochester a lot, since my wife is from there. The latter is closer to where I live, and I'd like to venture further. But if you'r...

Brewery recommendations

This is actually kind of limited in its scope, but I'm hoping some good answers will come from those who qualify. Lemme 'splain: I'm retired now, so I have time. And we've come into some money from an inheritance. It's earmarked for much-needed kitchen renovation, which we're in the process of start...

Re: Cooking With Beer

I always cook with beer. Sometimes I even add it to the food. As far as beer can chicken, that's not the best way to cook a whole chicken. It doesn't add flavor or tenderness, and it may even contribute to uneven cooking and cold spots. https://www.epicurious.com/expert-advice/beer-can-chicken...

Re: What are you brewing/bottling/kegging?

I kegged a fiver of 100 Years War IPA this morning, and later today I'm going to smoke the grains for my award-winning Old Smokey Amber Ale, which I'm brewing tomorrow, 7/4. Finally getting the pipeline up and running after some weeks of idleness.

Re: Woe is me!

Wow…this thread got way off Dave’s initial topic. To bring it back on the tracks; Dave…hope you figured out a way to keep the beer line running, whether home brewed or commercially brewed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I'm just brewing weekly until the pipeline is up and running. I figure not ...

Re: What are you brewing/bottling/kegging?

Finally brewing again, after quite a few weeks of idleness.

Fedorus Magnus Kölsch. Got the boil going about ten minutes ago. This is a good summertime beer.

Re: Woe is me!

Yeah, I have to do stovetop. I've become accustomed to it, and I'm not going to spend any more money on brewing equipment, at least not right now. I tend to brew less in the summer, also, since it's brutally hot and humid around here. But I do have extract batches I can make quickly, and that will k...

Re: Woe is me!

Yeah, I went to the supermarket today to pick up some bits and bobs, and had to buy a couple of sixes of commercial beer.

Fortunately, I know good beer from meh beer, and I got a six-pack of Oberon and six-pack of 2-Hearted Ale.

I could definitely do worse.

Re: Woe is me!

i hear one can buy beer at certain stores including gas stations and grocery stores. you may just have to lower your standards until the fall ... :fedora: Not valid in Utah Last time I tried to get 2 beers in Utah (outside of the private club used by the "bad" BYU students), I got looked ...

Woe is me!

I'm trying to strike a good balance here at Fedora Brauhaus. In an attempt to lose some weight and slim down, I'm making a serious effort to cut down on the beer drinking. Which means cutting down on the beer brewing. That's a juggling act worthy of the Ed Sullivan show in its heyday. But that's jus...

Re: What are you Smokin', Grillin' or Cookin'?

Got around to making a fatty yesterday. A little too much ground beef, so I'll cut back on that next time, but it was delicious!
One hour in; two hours in with glazed BBQ sauce; the final product - cheddar cheese and onion in the middle.
