Re: mini keg

Hi Darin, welcome aboard!
As above, you can carb your keg with gas or sugar. You will want gas to serve the beer anyway. There are online calculators to calculate carbing sugar, and rules of thumb. I think an ounce per gallon is pretty standard, but you should confirm that.

Re: Brewing library

Mine reflects progress. I started with Palmer's How to Brew, then Brewing Classic Styles and Clone Brews. I have others, but I probably refer to BCS and Strong's Modern Homebrew Recipes most often. I also have books by modern craft beer founders.

Re: Weather check on EC friends.

Thanks Brother.
We got about a foot of snow at my house, though nearby as much as two feet. It's been very cold. As I no longer have to work weekends (or any other time) I shovel out gradually. When I get cold or achy, I come back inside.

Re: Kegging Advice

I generally carb my kegs as you did, 30psi then turn down. I have used sugar to carb kegs when I had an oxidation concern. I don't recall a difference, though the sugar carbed batch was an annual Christmas beer, I didn't do a comparison. I do find that my kegged beers take some time to reach their p...

Re: Welcome New Members

Hi Chad, welcome aboard! Sounds like you're off to a good start. If you used the plastic bottles that came with your kit, I don't think they'll explode, they can stretch if pressure gets too high. While two weeks or even three would let your beer finish, after ten days most of the sugars are eaten. ...

Re: Cooler than I thought I was...

When I used natural temperature control, I found variations around the house. A couple of cheap wall thermometers helped find the difference between the floor and the top of the hutch. In the basement, it varied a few degrees from the floor to a table, and again near the furnace. Using a plastic coo...

Re: Bottle, or Keg then Bottle?

Thanks guys. It's Christmas Beer. I used to make and keg it every year, but never finished it. The leftovers were bottled from the keg. I still have a few bottles of 2020 in the basement, 7% abv, dark, sweet and spiced. It held up well. Usually I brew it in the summer, but I expect to have time over...

Bottle, or Keg then Bottle?

I plan to make a small batch to set aside until December, maybe even the following year. I don't want to tie up a keg, or put it on tap for any length of time, it's going in bottles. I have a Tapcooler bottle filler. Would you keg carb then bottle, or just bottle with priming sugar? Why? Thanks.
