Re: 2 brewdemon fermenters

I split between 2 or even 3 Coopers fermenters all the time. Just brew the entire batch, and then based on expected final volume I fill one fermenter with a little bit less than what I think half or 1/3rd the batch will be, and then fill the other(s) with the same. If there is more left over I just ...

Re: Options For BrewDemon 2 Gallon Conical

If the desire is to stick with HMEs, you could use 1/2 of a Coopers or Muntons 5-6 gallon canned extract kit (and there are others as well), and then put the other half in the fridge (covered) and then brew another batch 2 weeks later. Just a random google search turned up this (I know nothing about...

Re: Fermentation

One other thing that doesn't waste much is to pull a sample into a hydrometer sample tube (that doesn't leak), test it with a sanitized hydrometer, then cap it with a breathable foam stopper (like a lab stirplate flask would be using) or just cover it with foil that hangs over the edges. And then ju...

Re: NA Beer ideas

I found a few articles on brewing sites. In addition to the traditional methods of boiling off the alcohol, there's also a yeast that barely attenuates. It makes low alcohol (~2%) beer. My goal is <=0.5%. I may try a 1 gallon batch without fermenting as a test, but I think I'm going to end up doing...

Re: What are you brewing/bottling/kegging?

I bottled that cream ale, which tasted lush. It will be yummy. So then I went and brewed 6 gallons of no boil no chill frankenlager / IPL from hell. Or something like that. Mashed at 147, held at 147 for about 4 hours. Leftover grains from dopplebock and scotch ale and 8oz of 20L, and a shit ton of ...

Re: Fermentation

It is normal for there to be some residual carbonation in recently fermented wort. Depending on temperature, more or less co2 will remain in solution. Henry's Law / gas laws thing. It is why really accurate CO2 calculators will ask you what your ambient temperature is to calculate sugar to be used t...

Re: Stout Ideas and suggestions.

I've only used coffee twice but I found making cold brew was better for a coffee porter I made. Supposedly it's not a bitter and acrid than boiled coffee. It should sit for about 24 hours in the fridge. Yes, I think the cold brew would be the way to go, I was just thinking a possible infection on r...

Re: What are you brewing/bottling/kegging?

Have you tried the Cellar Science German dry Lager? it's a lot like 34/70 but cheaper, I used it on a Helles and liked it. I actually have 4 packs of that but haven't used it yet. I had a pack of"Berlin" sitting around that was going to expire sooner, and since there are commercial yeast ...

Re: What are you brewing/bottling/kegging?

So I bottled that German IPA SMASH beer, and I'm now brewing a cream ale, which is something I've not done in a long time. Although I may use lager yeast. So maybe not actually an ale. Whatever.

Re: FermZilla 27 Liter Tri Conical Fermenter

Word of warning....do not dump yeast/trub/hops while it's under-pressure. Ask me how I know this is a bad idea..... I can only imagine. But doesn't that decrease the utility of pressure fermentation? Or do you do pressure fermentation to reduce ester production, then drop the pressure, dump the tru...

I've got messed up hands, so I wonder about getting the lid off of those things. It seems like some folks have trouble.

Re: Stout Ideas and suggestions.

I don't know for sure, but since Bella / French Saison produces enzymes that can convert even unconverted starch and complex sugars into fermentable sugars and ferment it anyways, and mash temperature is more or less irrelevant when using it because of this when it is pitched in high enough quantiti...

Re: Thank You

How long should I keep the beer in the fermenter before transferring it to my mini keg? We would usually suggest that you should leave it in your fermenter for 2 full weeks. Also, how long can I store the finished product in my mini keg in the refrigerator? Honestly this depends on the beer style. ...

Re: Stout Ideas and suggestions.

As long as it's boiled in some water so it was pasteurized before adding, I don't see why it would be a problem. It's not quite the same as back sweetening wine when you have tossed in stuff to murder all the yeast and bugs so you would want to be careful like that. (Although you could do that in be...

Re: FermZilla 27 Liter Tri Conical Fermenter

Those are a bit taller than the shelf I ferment on, although it could be adjusted. But I do really like that my current fermenters have wide bucket like openings and that I can throw them in my dishwasher. Going back to a narrow opening and more difficult cleaning would be a bit annoying. Pressurize...
