Re: Brewbirds' Free Wort Project

I want to jump in here and support my sis while logged in to rant about beer chemistry. Mainly to admit that I nearly screwed up the project but everything is fine now. She was wondering why the SRM were looking odd. Digging deeper I learned something about Beermith we ought to share. What I did, or...

Re: beer chemistry

Very disappointed in our mashing segment given the EXTREME importance of the mash to brewing (and zero discussion of steeping or partial mashing). It seems very little was added to what we have previously covered. Virtually the only chemistry content was a copy of a wikipedia on what is "belie...

glenn/beerlord pls read

bb1 is quite upset because she was posting a (lenghty) discussion and was apparently 'timed out', losing her data. she has moved away from the 'puter ... is there any way to recover all her tyong? thanks.

Theory of Mashing article from homebrewtalk

This discussion of how enzymes work in mashing was referenced in beer chemistry class. It seems very well-written, so I am sharing:

Re: beer chemistry

{Klaxons sounding, sexy computer voice intones: "Warning. Hull Breach in fifty seconds...forty...thirty"...} Kirk: "Quick, Sulu. The Amadori Rearrangement....." Spock: "Captain. It is logical to expect a Maillard Reaction". Scotty: "Ock, ma head, she canna take any...

Re: beer chemistry

I cannot use the website from my PC (hangs up on waiting for googlead adclick) but somehow its fine on BB1s. If anyone has ideas please share. Using Chrome on W7 64 bit, now running Bitdefender but before N360. The Polycarbonate classes, I think it is a carbon with three oxygen, one double bonded. T...

Re: beer chemistry

Disappointed myself by missing two unit 3 questions, both due to carelessness. One, very easy, I just got distracted by the profs use of yeast color to match types and just carelessly mismatched them. The second, I counted my carbons in the diagram properly (hint: review your branch naming, metas an...

Re: beer chemistry

WOOT. Only missed two as well. Very happy as there were some tough spots in this segment. I deserve a :mug: Not sure how the grading is calculated - I guess they don't use GPAs anymore? Not to mention A's and B's. My school days were the 70s-80s. And, yes GOF, we will be studying details of the BIOc...

Re: beer chemistry

UNIT TWO. I am posting this here because I am not quite sure I know how to post to our beerborg group on the Janus site, and as we have discovered the health effects material go be overly technically complicated. Hope this helps (please respond if anyone sees errors). The attached diagram and footno...

Re: beer chemistry

We have to retake it if we took it before the errors were caught- still due friday also. I had three questions that were correct but marked as wrong.
