Re: Zombie Lust IPA...
I think I'll start the dry hop today. The beer has cleared and reached FG. I can dry hop today and keg it up at the end of the week or over next weekend. I never dry hopped with this much hops so I think I'm going to break it up into 2-3 different hop sacs and weigh them down. I don't go commando wi...

Re: Sapphire Pilsner
Ok I do remember now some of you topping off Mr Beer style after the boil. You might also want to try a 1.5 qts per lb of grain ratio. That was my biggest jump in effeciency came from doing a thinner mash. I used to mash at 1.25 qts/lb and seen about 70-75% but going to 1.5 qts/lb I can see 80% or e...

Re: Sapphire Pilsner
What is your water to grain ratio? 60% is on the low side. Im glad a finer crush seemed to help maybe you can go even finer. A mashout might hbelp your effeciency as well if you dont already do one. Also how long do you usually mash for? A simple iodine test with a mash sample could help make sure y...

Re: Sapphire Pilsner
Looks good, can't go wrong with a bold crisp Lager when your in the mood to just have a beer. This looks like a good German Pils. I used Saphire hops a few months back for a Helles/Pilsner type Lager and like them a lot. I found the flavor and aroma just a tad spicier and not as floral as Hallertau,...

Re: Cloudy Wort From BIAB?
I do a modified BIAB with a sparge not traditional full volume BIAB but I find my wort might be obviously cloudier in the boil but once I add whirlfloc and chill the wort and give it a few minutes to let cold break settle out the wort transfering to the fermenter is just as clear as it is with my tr...

Re: How many BIAB'ers...
Thanks for the replies its cool to see what others do with their setup. I have a 9 gal kettle so I cant do full volume BIAB with my usual 5-6 gal batch size which need from a 6 to 7.5 gal boil volume. My crush is pretty consistant from my LHBS so with my 1.5 qts/lb I easily see 75-80% eff with a spa...

How many BIAB'ers...
Just wondering what some of your methods out there? I have yet to do a traditional full volume BIAB. But i do get 75-80% eff using 1.5 qts per lb of grain and doing a sparge after i pull the grains from the mash. I know thats not true BIAB but it works. Ive also done a hot water mashout to get to my...

Re: Should I ditch my basket?
I had a similar concern with my kettle. I bout a 9 gal Bayou Classic Stainless Pot. Completely happy with the purchase and I even installed a ball valve on it. It came with a steamer basket which I first thought would great and it would be but instead of my gap being around the side of my pot like y...

Re: Zombie Lust IPA...
losman, I have heard that they use Wyeast 1968. I did use it on a Gumball clone recipe and I actually had reversed results, I like the one with 05 better than the 1968. Of course that will vary on a couple factors such as recipe, mash temp...etc. I think if I was to use the the 1968 again with somet...

Zombie Lust IPA...
This is mashing as I type. Gonna be a big, bold, hoppy Pale Ale/IPA in likes of Zombie Dust by 3Floyds Brewing here in NW Indiana. Brewing this up for a buddy to have in his kegerator...this stuff is hard to get. Doing this one BIAB for the most part with a sparge since it's a bigger beer and large ...

New Guy From NW Indiana...
Just joined up looking for a change of pace from the other forums I frequent. Its nice to see what others are up to and what they are brewing. Meet some new fellow brewers. I been brewing over 5 yrs now started with MB kit and have done everything inbetween. BIAB at times and traditional all grain i...
