I brewed a milk stout last weekend. Looking at the recipe, I may or may not have missed about a pound of speciality grain. I'm sure I paid for it, but I don't remember adding or milling it. I just put "may be missing C60" in my notes. Whoops!

Re: Can it at home
We have several local places getting into crowlers. The sharing idea is where my mind went too. That, and canning wort for starters.

Re: I ain't gonna brew no pumpkin spice beer
I brewed one last year, and enjoyed it, but not enough to make it again this year. I struggled to finish the 5G before Thanksgiving.
Perhaps the winds will change next go round. Or I could make a smaller batch.

Re: Curious about feelings on competition results
Beer judging is a lot like marching band judging. You can't compare contest to contest. Once a judge, or in this case, judges, set a number, every beer is then judged in relation to that one. The second beer is either better than the first, or worse. Then, determined how much better or worse. Judges...

Hop Yield 2017
I thought you all might enjoy my hop harvest. These are 2nd year vines from bpgreen. The Centennial in the middle was accidentally cut in early June. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170806/06c5be72cbe9c48c8d55b040c3adc845.jpg My deck setup. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170806/79d88048442348...

What are you brewing/bottling?
Just finished up my annual Wet hop Harvest ale. My Chinook went crazy this year, yielding 17.1 oz! Got another 3.75 from the Cascades too. I threw them all in today's brew, only using pellets for a FWH and at flameout. I'll have either a delicious Chinook ale, or a grassy mess. We'll see in a few we...

Re: 50 beers from 50 States (The Clone Wars)
Alpha King is not the best beer from Three Floyd's (Gumballhead, Zombie Dust, maybe even Dark Lord). Also, Paducah the best in KY is surprising, considering Against the Grain is doing some amazing stuff. I'd guess this one is a case of not allowing the recipes to be public, though. Or my Louisville ...

Re: What are you brewing/bottling?
Yea, I see what your saying. A lot of it is "hell, I did that anyway," with things like trub in the fermentor, or not sweating the lager technique. Mashani does short boils all the time, and my recipe is a solid pale bordering an IPA. If the hops finish short, it'll end more balanced. If i...

Re: What are you brewing/bottling?
Right on, Phil! I brewed up a New World IPA this morning. Did a short mash and boil, inspired by you all and Brulosophy. Seemed like a perfect opportunity to try it out!

Re: Well, that was an ordeal
I don't have any suggestions, Dave, but I'd be interested. My chiller had a small leak at a soldering joint, discovered as I chilled. I let it ride and the beer turned out fine.

Re: Has anyone else had problems with oxiclean recently?
I've only ever used Oxyclean too, and while I didn't have a scale problem, I did have more crud on my carboy after the last brew. Usually a soak and a washcloth takes care of everything, but this time took some scrubbing. Now I wonder if it's the cleaner.

Re: Teach me about water adjustments
Thanks, folks. I figured checking was really for future batches too, what with short mashes being a thing and all. By the time you check the pH, most of the conversion is done. I'm hoping to get the calculator dialed close enough that I can trust it and not have to measure the pH all the time. I jus...
