Fresh Squeezed Noir
You’ve used this stuff Mashani? I guess when you mentioned it, I didn’t realize you had experience with it. Just pointing it out as an option. Did you like the results?

Re: Fresh Squeezed Noir
Yeah, I used it a couple of times. I once used a whole 2oz jar of it in a 2.6 gallon LBK batch of "black ipa" and it didn't taste remotely like a stout or porter. It was good. Since then I've just been using 24 hour cold steeped roasted barley or the like to get similar results, but I'd use that stuff again if got it cheap. Amazon had it as an "add-on item" really cheap at one point, that's how I ended up with the stuff the first time.
Re: Fresh Squeezed Noir
Thanks for the info. Looking forward to giving this a go. So 2 ounces in 5 gallons should work to blacken this without much flavor perfectly then. And by the way, I paid $1.99 for the 2 oz jar, plus shipping of course.
BUT, I won't be brewing this tomorrow. It's coming in the mail tomorrow, and I had it sent to work. I won't be at work on Saturday. I really screwed that one up, didn't I?
CORRECTION...I just got an email from the USPS, the shipment is on the truck and out for delivery. I'll be damned, the post office is a day ahead of schedule. Don't see that too often!!!

Bet you didn't brew in 90 degree weather like I will tomorrow. You northerners have it easy!

I think I need to rename this to Hell’s Nectar IPA.

This has been on the gas for 8 days, so today I gave it a taste. The aroma was nice, could have been a little more pronounced, but that seems to be the story with my beers lately. The flavor was slightly sweet at the beginning that ended with a nice IPA bitterness. The color was black as night, so the Black DME did it’s thing. I bet this will only improve a bit as it conditions some more also. I’m happy with this so far.

Re: Fresh Squeezed Noir
Wait? It's black. Icky!
I hope it continues to improve (if needed) as it gets fully carbed. But it sounds like you're happy wit the result. Do you get any taste from the black malt(s)?

Re: Fresh Squeezed Noir
I guess I need to update this one, and with not so great news. So it started off nice, as mentioned before, it needed more aroma. And as it aged a little, the flavor went away too. So it was a very blah kind of beer. Not bad, just light in both the aroma and flavor department. I was actually blending this with another IPA I had on hand, but I blew that keg a couple weeks ago. So nothing good to blend with anymore. So last week I keg hopped it with an ounce of 7 C's. I've had the unopened ounce in the freezer for quite some time, at least a year. Well, turns out it was a mistake. It now has a very peculiar aroma and flavor, and I have no idea what it is. I just know that I don't like it. I'll probably let it sit for a few more weeks and see if it mellows out more, if it doesn't, it's gonna get dumped. I just don't enjoy drinking it.

Re: Fresh Squeezed Noir
How do you store your hops? I had this happen once but I know the hops were good. I wonder about adding hops late and causing oxidation but mine never had that 'cardboard' flavor.
Now you have me wondering about the beer I'm kegging Sunday with keg hops.

They were stored in the freezer, never opened either, factory sealed. And I've keg hopped before with no problems either.
