Would mashani drink it?

Post by Kealia »

I saw this post today on FB from a brewery in San Francisco and it immediately made me think of something that mashani would drink:

"A new seasonal selection from @fortpointbeer is back! •Manzanita is an altbier similar to a rauchbier, brewed with beechwood-smoked malts and charred manzanita branches. Smokey, with a great malt sweetness, this smooth brew is perfect for the crisp fall coming in."

So I ask the question: Would mashani drink it?

(I'm hoping that in written form, this comes across as intended and not as poking fun, etc. The same way that if somebody posted that they used 5lbs of hops in a 5G batch would make me think of Beer-lord, this post just made me think of him/you)

I say yes, with words that I can't understand. He would be all for it. :)

I would for sure try it as part of a 4oz flight.

If I would like it or not I do not know. I actually do not like rauchbier at all, or at least I don't think I do (I have never had one that I liked).

All the smoked beer I make on my own is with the oak smoked wheat malt, which is much milder then beechwood smoked malt or any other kind of smoked malt. That is why you can make a beer 100% out of it and some people actually like the result, which I don't think that could be claimed for any other kind of smoked malt. The oak smoked wheat is the only smoked malt I really like to use in any quantity more then a smidgen.

I have heard of people who didn't' read the directions properly when trying to make the Gratzer and instead of oak smoked wheat they just tried it with whatever other kind they had. Inevitably those beers got dumped or used as a "liquid smoke" substitute.

And I have no idea what a "charred manzanita branch" is like LOL.

So... yes I would drink it. How much of it I would drink overall, I dunno…

I am *really liking* the Gratzer btw. It is really good.

I thought that might be the case. I can't say that the "charred manzanita branch" sounds appealing as I've done MANY hikes through manzanita around here but never once thought about putting one in my beer!
