Re: Pliny the Elder
A buddy was going to try Younger this year but didn't feel like standing in line for 4 hours for the 6oz (8oz?) pour. It's released right around my birthday but I'm not sure I want to stand around that long either.
Re: Pliny the Elder
Bottled this bad boy up. Got 50 bottles + a couple ounces for a taster. It was awesome. The color didn't seem to have that orange hue to it though, although I was only going on the couple of ounces that I had in a rocks glass. Maybe once 12 ounces are poured into a beer glass it will be different. Now I have to wait 3 weeks to crack one of these open.
The cold crash dropped all the dry hops down to the bottom really good. I'll dry hop commando from here on out. I was real carefull on the transfer to the bottling bucket and got very liitle hop crap transferred over.

50 bottles? Damn, I was off.
Glad to hear it's coming along well!

Re: Pliny the Elder
I forgot we had a bottle count on this one. Ron...I beat you out by 1/2 bottle. 46.5 was the closest. I guess I'll have to send myself a beer.

Re: Pliny the Elder
Great news. My first dry hop is still settling. I keep tapping on the side of the carboy to help them drop. Don't think that'll happen. Should be doing the final dry hop this week.

Jeff, have you done the side by side yet?
Re: Pliny the Elder
I got a chance to try it over the weekend Ron (Thank You, again). Have a picture and a few thoughts. Wife is in Costa Rica and work is humming. I'll post this week I hope.Kealia wrote:Jeff, have you done the side by side yet?

Re: Pliny the Elder
Added my second and last dry hop addtion last night and will keg it this weekend. All the dry hops were commando but there's no way all the hops will drop before I keg. It's going to be hard to keep all those hops out the keg even with a hop sack as a filter. I'm just going to loose a few pints on the first few pulls but I'm hoping all those hops will be the difference maker in this beer. Most everything I read tells me commando is the way to go in this beer.

Re: Pliny the Elder
I cracked a couple of these open last night during the football game. Ahhh, what a good beer this is. This recipe was a kit from Austin Homebrew so it's not the widely available actual clone recipe from Russian River that is on-line. Comparing mine to Jeff's which was the Russian River clone recipe....mine was slightly darker in color, not quite as aromatic or bitter either. Even with that, it was an awesome IPA. I shared it with a neighbor, which is the first time he has had any of my beers....he took a sip, looked at me and said, "Holy shit, you actually made this?" That's really all I needed to hear. We watched the game on my neighbors deck, it was dark out, so I didn't get a picture. I will most likely have another one this evening, so I'll snap a picture and post it.
When I bought this kit, it was buy one get one free. So I have another one to brew yet. Now I have to decide if I just leave it as is, or adjust it to the cone recipe that Jeff did. It's going to be a hard choice.

Reading that made MY heart swell with pride for you. It's one thing for you to think your beer is good, but when we get that kind of feed back, you know you're getting it right. "Holy shit" and "This is amazing" are some of the best product references we can receive.BlackDuck wrote: I shared it with a neighbor, which is the first time he has had any of my beers....he took a sip, looked at me and said, "Holy shit, you actually made this?" I just put yours in the fridge this morning, so later in the week I'll get to it.
I haven't decided yet to try yours alone or side by side with mine. Seeing as how my and the original were off. Thoughts?

I would like to know your opinion on them side by side. It might help me make up my mind on what to do with the second kit I have sitting here.

Roger that, side by side it will be. Completed with pictures and an honest taste comparison. Well as close as my taste buds and make it.BlackDuck wrote:I would like to know your opinion on them side by side. It might help me make up my mind on what to do with the second kit I have sitting here.
