That would be an awesome experiment. If you do it, please make sure to let us know the results?

I'm trying these test batches side-by-side tonight instead of an hour apart. I can't say 100% whether these are the same or different. Both have the same flocculation, carbonation, and color, and very similar flavors and aroma. Downunda has more head and slightly more caramel aroma, while S-04 has slightly more caramel flavor. These were both brewed in May, three weeks apart, so minor differences in temperature, among other possible factors, could lead to those differences. Maybe some day I will get the chance to brew them from the same wort and ferment them side-by-side.

foothiller, that's what I'm planning to do. I want to get a fairly basic I think pale ale, and brew and split in to 2 lbks. One will get the downunda, the other s-04 and once it's bottled, I can test and see what the results are. Once I brew it, maybe I can send a couple samples out and get some other opinions to see what we can find out. I'll probably try it at the end of this month.
