BL, one thing I am working on is to buy things I can keep using. Example. I have 4 cases of PET's, a 8 gal Megapot , 2 wing cappers and many other things I haven't used in years. I know what I want for a system on Kegging, but would like to start soon. I think I would like something I could put in my fridge but still use the parts as I get to where I am heading with this................just thinking

I've got a neighbor who uses a picnic tap in a regular fridge. So all he did was take out the shelves. The downside to that approach is that he has to open the fridge to draw a beer. It's not a huge deal, but it's nice to have a "real" kegerator.

If you watch craigslist, you may be able to find a used homemade kegerator for cheap. Sometimes people will sell used ones for less than the co2 tank and regulator would cost. I bought a mini fridge kegerator from home depot for about $450 (delivered) because I wanted the convenience more than the money savings.

I think that is what I'm starting with so I can start soon. Just ordered a keg today. I want to check around on co2, Im quite sure my welding supply where I get my welding and cutting gasses, also supplies co2 for the restaurants and other businesses in the area. Then I can have more time looking for items needed to put a complete system together.

Damn, I think I lost about 7 years of my beer brewing life for not going AG sooner. Extract and steep, some really good beers. Partial mash about the same but maybe a little better, but AG sounded scary but so easy now and I like it so much better. Now on to kegging and should have done that years ago also.

Morebeer is a great on-line place to get stuff and I thank Mash for telling about them. I placed a order yesterday and gambled about getting some liquid yeast because we did have a warm up. Ordered at 11:00 AM Friday and was here today about 2 PM, no problem....Fast shipping. BUT ordered another new KegLand keg and got a used one instead, called them as soon as I seen it was wrong and sent pics. I am sure they will make it right because there is some money difference. I don't have a problem with getting used kegs and planned on doing so anyways sometime. It had pressure in it and not too dinked up, but didn't smell to good inside. I would just as soon keep it instead of the hassle on sending it back. We will see what they say after the first of the week.

I think that legally, they should send you the one you ordered and let you keep the one you didn't order.

The reason for that is that when mail order was a new thing, companies would sometimes send things that hadn't been ordered, then charge for them. So according to law, if you're sent something you didn't order, you don't need to pay for it or send it back.

I was actually happy enough with extract kits I had been making that I did not feel a reason to move to all grain. To me the move to all grain had more to do with German brewing terms I didn't understand. I decided to try a partial mash. One site explained how to do the partial mash using a bag in a bottling bucket. The light bulb kinda went on and I realized that 2.5 gallons in the bottling bucket for a 5 gallon partial mash was the same as a 2.5 gallon all grain brew. The first couple did not turn out well but then I was on my way to 3 gallon all grain batches. To me the all grain beers tend to need less conditioning to be good.
Kegging? I have a couple small kegs but have not sourced CO2 yet. Kinda thinking I can keg half and bottle half of a 5 gallon batch.

I think you could be right on this, but I like to be fare also on a honest mistake. We got it all straightend out. I am keeping the used keg at a substantially lower price, and got credit for the difference. I am good on this. A few years ago I ordered some offroad shocks for my Jeep from a online company and they sent me the wrong ones and sent me the right ones and told me to keep the first ones, that was a lot of money difference there. I had already planned on getting some used kegs anyways but ordered another new one and was not. They are a good company.

I was a little hesitant on doing this also, I had made some good bottled beers and done that for a long time but you can take your homemade to a new level when kegged and on a draft tap, I see that now.

I’m heading to my nieces wedding shower tomorrow in Cleveland. My brother called me and wanted to do a trade. A little quid pro quo. He gets the Saison and Le Cheval from Rockmill, I get the other two. The bottle of St. Bernardus ABT 12 is the closest thing to Westvleteren 12 as I’ll ever get. Pretty good trade as I see it.

Bernie is pretty solid indeed. Had two westy bottles recently. Greatly enjoyed them, but really won't go out of my way to get more, esp for the cost of procurement. Bernie is close enough...

It's supposed to be fairly warm this afternoon, but I have to work, so no brewing for me. It's supposed to rain on and off for the next couple days, then this weekend it's supposed to be cold again. Next week is below normal, temps in the single digits over night and teens and twenty's during the day. Mother nature is not being kind to my brewing schedule. And I'm down to one keg with only a couple pints left in it. Things better change and change quick....I've gotta brew some beer!!!

I think I'll brew Tuesday since it's Mardi Gras day, everyone here is off and I don't care to celebrate because I'm old! The weather has been shyte here too but not cold, just constantly wet and rainy. I'm covered so I don't care and with electric, I could brew indoors if needed. I feel for you northern guys as I brew more in the winter than in the summer. Come August, it's work to brew!

I was bored last night, nothing on tv I wanted to watch. I went to the Mr Beer forum and logged in, seen my last time there was 2015. It was fun looking back on the old threads and old members. I joined it Dec 5, 2010 but seen post from quite a few members here from before that. It is nice sometimes to look back in the past, but not wanting to go back to then. I can't find the Mr Beer website, not that I need to buy anything there but just wanted to see what they have now.

Wife thinks I should get a job. No not a money problem. Been retired for 3 years and my other house is sold and nothing to do down there now. I do the laundry, dishes and other things when she is at work. She thinks I should do something besides making and drinking beer, not farming like we use to do but still have a lot to do on that....So I guess I will look for a job for the summer but don't want to work long hours. Done that for 40 years. Maybe a good reason to get my old motorcycle going again so I have some place to ride it to.
