A empty glass, I should change that but have a couple more things I need to do before I drink anymore.

Pilsner Urquell Nefiltrovaný... Don't see this in the States much. One of our local beer bloggers tried it at a beer blogging conference and bugged the rep he met at the conference and the local distro about getting it here. As a result we've seen it briefly in each of the last two years. This may be among my favorite beers for the style...Image

I can't recall the last time I had a Pilsner Urquell - and definitely never had the unfiltered version.

But the best Pilsner I've ever had was Steam Whistle from our friends in the North. And I had it at the brewery so it was as fresh as could be.

It is good, but the "normal" kind that we get here to my tastes is not the same as it used to be "back in the day" (before 1990s). I don't know if the ingredients have changed to save $, or if it's just always old and not so fresh due to more competition from too many micro breweries / IPA fanaticism, hipsters or millennials ruining everything, or something, I don't know.

I am wondering now though if the unfiltered version brings back some the "old versions" characteristics. I'll have to try to find some.

The unfiltered version presents smoother, but maybe a bit more bitter than traditional. Both times I've had in the last two years, I got a pour of regular to side-by-side it. It's rock solid to style. Ratebeer gives it a 98 overall and 100 in its style category, so I guess I'm not the only one who thinks so.

As for finding it... good luck. It rarely makes it out of Europe. You can get a pour at the brewery and some places around Europe, but RateBeer lists 16 locations that carry it in all of Europe. Nashville got six kegs that were spread to six bars around the area (incl. two places in Franklin where I live), which is somewhat awesome, but I'm not sure anywhere else in the US is seeing it. I know a place in DC had it last year as well, but not sure who else did. Looking thru Untappd, I don't see any checkins in US locations outside of our locals and one place in Maryland.

It sounds awesome, and I'm sure it's way fresher then the bottled stuff around here. I hope one day I stumble upon it.

Meanwhile, I am drinking the Schwarzbier I made, and it's most excellent.

Earlier this week my travels put me in Atlanta so I met Inkleg and Mrs. Inkleg @ New Realm Brewing for some dinner and adult-type beverages.

While waiting, I sampled thier Her and Munich Dunkel, bother of which were light, tasty and easy to drink:

After that, I settle on a pint, or two, of their Hoptropolis, which is very similar to an IPA put out at home by Alvarado Street.

I wish y'all could scratch and sniff because it was fantastic!
