Mash and Boil malfunction

What started out as a would be easy brew day turned in to a couple problems. Mashed in at 8:30 AM and done with the sparge by 11:00 We had to go to our lawyer to sign some papers so I just set to 200. I was bragging to my wife how nice that was to set it and forget I. When I got back the screen was off and the switches didn't light up so I tried the reset and that wasn't tripped nor my GFI. so I pumped the wort into my old mega-pot and boiled outside. flipped over the M&B ant took off the bottom cover and found a wire connection had come off the heating element, replaced it and back up and running.

Yikes, looks like too much heat caused the wire to fault. Maybe a regular checkup is in order every 3-5 boils.

I can't believe it is only 16 ga. wire going to them elements., there is 2 of them a 1000w and a 600w. ! have 12 ga on a 20 amp circuit going to the GFI where I plug it in.

I kinda wonder if it might be a good idea to pick up a few of those connecting wires and do the checkup Beer-Lord suggests. Just replace the wires if they look iffy.

I may do that, but if I do, I think I'll use something a little thicker than 16. I'm no electrician, but that seems pretty thin for that wattage, even for a short wire.

I really thought before I took the bottom cover off, the main board was fried and while boiling outside kept thinking not going back to this. Thinking wonder if I can still get a plain M&B anymore without a built in pump. I just sold my other house/farm and could easily buy another one or most any other system for that matter but don't want to. I am happy to be able to brew my next one in a week or two on this one.
