Kveik It To Yourself

Post by Beer-lord »

Yes I know, dumb name!
Hornindal has lived up to the hype. Made a 2 liter starter (saved 1/2 liter for future use) last night and it overflowed the flask! It was only on the stir plate for 12 hours.
Once pitched, the airlock was humming along less than 2 hours later. It was likely sooner but I didn't check it until 1 hour 45 minutes after pitching. First, the aroma of the hops used was really tropical. More so than I have ever noticed. So, I'm sure the esters this yeast will put out will be very enjoyable tomorrow morning. I plan on dry hopping tomorrow night and kegging next Friday (1 week in) and then carb it and enjoy.

If you have time before next Friday you can likely be kegging before that. Don't be surprised if this is done Sunday/Monday and clear the next day. Best wishes for a kick-ass beer!

I don't think dry hopping shyte tons of hops at 90 plus is a good idea so Sunday night I'm bringing it in to a cooler area overnight to dry hop the next day. Still likely at higher than normal dry hopping temps but I fear dry hopping warm (hot?). Though, this exbeeriment does have me scratching my head. http://brulosophy.com/2016/01/18/dry-ho ... t-results/

After only 7 days, this beer is kegged and it tasted very good. Almost complex. I know things changed greatly from this point on but I still can't wrap my head around how clear and ready this beer was so fast. I could have kegged it after 3 days if I didn't dry hop. The aroma is somewhat pineapple and something else I can't quite figure out. I read that the aroma can be like over ripen fruit and that's basically what I get. I'm almost positive this will be a very enjoyable beer and I may try it again at cooler temps to see what it brings.
So far, color me surprised and pleased.

Thanks for the report. It sounds like fun, and I like the name.
Making beer and stew for the Zombie Apocalypse.
Never mind, there it is.
