Split batch

A quick question for everyone. I would like to split a BD 2 gal recipe into 2 one gallon batches. Anyone ever do this? Any hints or suggestions to make the process not so messy.

I would think that if you are able to add the wort to some sort of sanitized 2 gallon+ container to "top off" then pouring one gallon in each fermenter would work.
Splitting the yeast? You could pour the yeast on a sanitized surface and visually split it but just buying a second packet would probably be best.

I split 5-6 gallon batches into 2.5-3 gallon batches all the time. Sometimes I used different yeasts for the split batches.

It's easy in my fermenters, I just literally divide the wort between them. I don't know what your using though. If carboys or jugs, then just use a funnel (sanitized) and pour it in. You want aeration anyways, pouring is good for that vs. siphoning.

I have also split batches, all grain or extract, sometimes using different yeasts, sometimes steeps to change the style. I have also split a can of extract and brewed it on different dates. Tell us your plan, I'm sure it can be made to work.

Oh, and if you mean split it as brewing 2 one gallon batches on totally different days / weeks, you can just divide your extract into 2 couple of plastic sealed containers and store it in your fridge.

And if you get into doing steeps and / partial mashes, you can also do this with those. IE do your steep / PM and then take the results and store half of it in a container and stick it in your fridge, and then use the other half.

I've done that many times in the past. I used to do a big PM and then split it across 3 batches where I used extract, that way I only spent the time doing one PM and got "more out of it".

Just an update.....I just divided the the batch into 2 measuring cups, took me a while to figure that one out lol. So simple!!! Luckily I had an extra packet of yeast. Now both 1 gal batches are fermenting away. Thanx everyone for the comments!
