Hello,

Just finished up my first batch. It turn out better than thought it would. My next brew is going to be the Weizenbier. If the turns out good, I was thinking of trying the Chocolate Stout recipe. Any advice on brewing that recipe? How would one receive a discount for it? It is currently sitting in my cart. :thanks:

Hi Dave, welcome aboard!
The discount can be found in the Members Only Deals section.
I haven't brewed the BD Chocolate Stout, but I would apply the same guide as other beers: two to three weeks in the fermenter in the proper temperature range, two weeks warm conditioning in the bottle, and a week in the fridge. Don't get discouraged if they aren't great at first, like everything else, you learn as you go along.

Welcome. Glad you’re first batch turned out good. I’ve never made the Stout so I can’t help you much there. But JohnSand gives good advice, so no need to repeat.

Thank you for the info. I am currently brewing in my basement. The temperature is 68/69 degrees. Is that a good temp to brew at? Upstairs it around 74/75. Should I be bottle conditioning in basement or upstairs?

Welcome!! Bottle conditioning should be done warmer so upstairs. Stay in Basement for fermenting, ambient temp is better but the first few days the active fermentation will raise the temp a few degrees, if you can keep the first week of fermentation 68 or cooler you're good!

Before I switched to capped glass bottles (and later to kegs), I used a lot of grolsch bottles. The most important thing to remember is that hops react with light. If those bottles are exposed to sunlight or fluorescent light, you'll get a definite skunk aroma.

If they are green, do not let your beer near sunlight or you will get skunked beer.

Brown/Amber bottles are always safer in this regards.
