Hey FIT....I’m planning on brewing this again as soon as the Czech Amber Lager finishes up and the fermentor is available. After looking through the recipe, do you remember why we put 4 ounces of corn sugar in this at the 20 minute mark of the boil? I can’t for the life of me remember why we did that.

To up the ABV a hair me thunks. I don't do that, it's good without IMHO. Going to have to do up another batch pretty soon myself, isn't much left in the keg. Too many ppl like it here.... LOL

This is mashing as I type here. Only thing that will be different is I have no Saaz, so I will be using French Aramis hops but that's fine with me I like them.BlackDuck wrote:You really do. It’s a great recipe. It’s going on my to brew list again.

So now that this has had a chance to lager a while, and I'm drinking it I will say - yeah, this is a really good recipe, I like it a lot. I will do it again with saaz one day for sure.

Awesome! It's a really good recipe which was mostly BD's doing. I had a little input but he is the man! I have a 5gal keg conditioning, hope to tap soon. I can't keep enough of this on hand/tap.

Never pictured BlackDuck for a rye guy especially in a lager! (inside joke)
I bet the rye and honey malt combo works great.

The only problem with this beer is that I ran out of it.Beer-lord wrote:I bet the rye and honey malt combo works great.
The honey malt, although it seems like a crazy amount, isn't. it's perfect against the spicy rye.
Re: Honey Rye Cream Ale - RCE
I finally got to brewing this yesterday. My mash temp came in a little low at 146.5 instead of 148. So I let it go for 75 minutes. My OG was high. Came in at 1.054, should have been 1.050. Oh well!!! If it finishes at 1.008 as it’s supposed to, it’s going to be almost 6% ABV. A bit high for a cream ale. If it drinks as easy as it did 5 years ago, it will be a dangerous beer!!! Really looking forward to this one finishing.
FIT...Thanks for reminding me this was a tasty beer.

Re: Honey Rye Cream Ale - RCE
Cool! I have finished drinking all mine. I have a plain-jane cream ale almost ready to drink. I will brew up another batch myself soon, it's a great brew! Next to be keg'd is a Maibock doing a rest.... can't wait to hit it, tasted good when transferred to secondary. I think I'll bottle this one for a change.

BD and FIT, I love it that a lot of us brew with the same basic equipment and all these years always have been steered in a good direction from everyone on this forum. With that said, I had another brew in mind for next, but going to do this one just as written next.BlackDuck wrote:Just finished putting this one to bed!

Mash, what you get for a OG and did you use the sugar? I am looking at 1054 without the sugar. Was going to order the ingredients today but morebeer is out of stock on Saaz.mashani wrote:So now that this has had a chance to lager a while, and I'm drinking it I will say - yeah, this is a really good recipe, I like it a lot.
