New guy first brew introducing myself

Yes BrewDemon and Mr. Beer kits are pretty darn easy but sometime you need a little help from the Borg to get you on the right track. Post your questions here!

Welcome. Feel free to ask any questions you have. We were all new at one point, and I think we're all better at remembering what it's like to be new than people on some forums.

Hi all
First 2 questions, getting ready to take first brew out of the fermenter , instructions say wait 7 days , do I wait a little longer or take it right at 7 days.

Second question do I filter the brew before putting into bottles with the sugar?

Thanks all

Longer is often better. I generally ferment three weeks. One sign that your brew in finished is that it should clear (if it's a clear style). I used to briefly shine a flashlight through the fermenter, I could see the difference as it cleared. Now I use plastic buckets and just wait three weeks.
Don't filter your beer, it should settle out in the fermenter, and even more in the bottles.

I would just bottle it and not stress about that.

I would be concerned about that, though pictures can be deceiving.
But it won't hurt you, so bottle it. I always taste when bottling which gives an indication.

Hello Clay and welcome to the forum and brewing beer. Your last picture doesn't look to pretty but I would bottle and see. Not much of anything will hurt you in brewing and you will know right away on first taste if something went wrong. I get a lot of beer with floaties on top and turn out fine. Keep us posted.

It is very difficult to make beer that will harm you. Pathogens don't survive the brewing process. That is why people made beer in mass quantities in the middle ages and Elizabethan times (and they didn't have sanitizers for their equipment like we do). Regardless, it was pretty much always safer to drink then the water it started from even if it got funky. Pretty much you would have to have used toxic metals or toxic chemical contaminated water for it to be truly dangerous.

Worst case it tastes bad. But I've bottled stuff much more gnarly looking then that and it was still good beer. So unless you taste it and it tastes like baby puke or strongly of vinegar (I seriously doubt either based on what I see in your picture) then I'd bottle it and wait and see.
