Sierra Nevada Flipside IPA

Post by Kealia »

My buddy brought me a bottle of this the other day:

I haven't tried it yet, but I will be in the coming days and I have to say it sounds awesome!
...features robust tropical fruit and citrus hop flavors from the use of whole-cone Citra, Simcoe and Centennial hops.

I just saw a Beer Geek Nation review about this last night. I'm not a huge red fan but have had some that I do really like plus is from SN so it's gotta be good, right?
Hope theirs some in my neighborhood.

I'm not a huge fan of Irish Reds or "reds" as compared to "ambers" either. I tend to think of reds as being more malty, sweeter, with a hint of roasted caramel notes to them, too.

I picked up a sixer of this on Sunday, but have not tried it yet either. Looking forward to it though.

I made an India Red Ale earlier this year. Thought I was being original. Sigh. It was good though, one of my favorites. I haven't seen this one from Sierra, but will be sure to try it when I do. Thanks for the heads up.

I'll be drinking this tonight and I'll share my thoughts - barring anything unforeseen.

It's a good beer. The nose is cascade (typical SN) mixed with some fruity aromas. Kind of like fruity pebbles or even more like Fruit Striped gum if you remember that.
It's a smooth drinker with a fruity finish that leaves a bit of dryness and bitterness on the tongue. I like it and would definitely order it when out but wouldn't go searching for it meaning that I wasn't floored by it.

I think I'm a little burned out on IPAs so maybe it's better than I give it credit for. Definitely NOT an Irish Red, more like a very hoppy amber. I did enjoy it but actually like my Levitation better I think.

Here in Texas they pulled my beloved Ruthless Rye from the shelves and replaced it with Summerfest. While I was totally upset about this I did get a twelver anyway.

It was pretty good and I'd try a Flipside if I could find it. Do you know if it is a seasonal or regional offering?

Yes, I found it on their website and it's listed as seasonal.

I wonder if it replaced the Summerfest here, I'll see if I can find it in town next time I go.

Likely it did. I think the name alone gave Summerfest only a short window.
And, I never could figure out for sure when Ruthless is out. Seems to come and go.
