Parish Brewing Opus Vert

Post by Beer-lord »

We can build it.
We have the technology.
Make it juicy and dank.
Make it creamy and rich.
It's about being hoppy,
not about IBU's.
This IPA is neither east nor west coast.
This is new school.
Wow, is this stuff hard to get. One place was only selling 1 bottle at a time. The 4 pack is $12.99! I guess they are trying hard to make this a Pliny or Heady beer that people beg for and I hate that if true. But, it's right up my alley. Not nearly as bitter as Ghost in the Machine but definitely a Parish beer (that's good for Paul).
The aroma is a tropical fruit garden. Picture an island with a fruit stand and all the different fruit smells. That's this beer to a T!
Taste is full of flavor. Juicy and dank are the perfect description. I'm pretty sure it's all late additions so I'm going to do more beers like that but damn if you have to buy and use lots of hops to get there. I have no idea of the IBU's or ABV. There is nothing on their website about this beer and their FB page says little.
It's not as cloudy as Ghost but not clear either. I definitely get the 'not east nor west coast' part.
Thanks to RedBEERd for working the Whole Foods guy so we could each get a 4 pak of Ghost and 4 pack of Opus. As my staycation starts today, this is a great way to start it.

Parish Brewing has recently changed some of their recipes using a different yeast and in some cases, swapping hops based on availability.
This latest Opus Vert, (bottle 12/29/16) is definitely juicier and more like what I read about East Coast IPA's (only had Topper so I know very little about them). You can see from my first picture in July how much more cloudy it is.
This one seems to be less aroma on the noise and not as much bite. Actually, I may like it more.
I can see how some (many????) may not like this type of beer. It's definitely less 'beery' than many IPA's from coast to coast.
Wish I had old and new side by side to taste the real differences.

They changed something with it because it's just so-so. Or maybe I'm just so used to hoppy beers, this one is not hoppy enough. :)
I'm in Metairie but the beer distributors in Louisiana suck like politicians!

i'm not a big fan of hoppy beers, yet. but i liked it. i'm also not a seasoned beer taster. but it was hoppy enough for me but not too much. kinda reminded me of some medical weed i once smoked. :D . i'm in houma. i agree about politicians here.

I've been a fan of GITM since it first came out. When it did, it was ahead of it's time. But, the last 2 years, while still enjoyable, something has changed. I'm sure it's related to new types of hops as well as other things. Really, almost all their original beers have gone thru some pretty big changes.
I still usually have some in the fridge on a regular basis.

i slowly sipped a glass of gitm last night about 2 hours before i turned in. i like it! parish must dry hop the heck out of that ale. i had a Great nights sleep. it seems to me hops really are helpful for sleep. the abv sure didn't hurt.
