Back for a short visit

Post by teutonic terror »

Morning BORG :borg:
It's been over two years since I checked in with y'all and alot has happened in that time frame...
My company shut down in May 2020 and I proceeded to try to drink
myself to death... finally went into detox in Aug 2020 been sober since...
That being said I haven't lost my taste for beer and I'm looking into
low/non alcohol brewing. It looks like a pretty involved process but quite
interesting as well...

Yesterday I was cleaning out some stuff in my basement and ran across an unopened
50 bag of malt i bought in Mar 2020...
I'm curious if the grain is still viable seeing as it hasn't been cracked and sealed in a container
away from critters...
Had to put all my hops in the compost pile and I might give the yeast a go since it's been in the
deep freeze all that time...
I appreciate any help or advice y'all can provide...THANKS!

Welcome back! I'm glad you got through that hard time alive. I'll be interested to see what you can do, as I've considered low alcohol brewing myself. As to the malt, I've read that you should taste it to determine if it is stale. I'm sure some of my malt is older than two years. Keep us posted.

It's good to hear from you and it looks like you know what you need to do. I wish you all the best.
I know absolutely nothing about low alcohol brewing.
Did a quick google search and found as a start:
https://homebrewacademy.com/how-to-brew ... olic-beer/
https://escarpmentlabs.com/blogs/resour ... lcohol-ipa
https://www.thebrewingnetwork.com/brew- ... hol-beers/
https://byo.com/article/brew-a-great-no ... olic-beer/

I'd also give Zymurgy a look as I recall a few articles this past year about it there.

Keep us updated!

I can't help on the low/no alcohol brewing either, but I'm jumping in to say congratulations for getting through your hard time - that's not easy to do (not that I need to tell you that).
