Little bit of everything tonight. SA Octoberfest, Molson, SA Harvest Brown, SA Ruby Mild and SA Latitude 48. All very tasty (even the Molson...)

Oh yeah, topped it off with a SA Boston Lager. Harvest Collection variety pack is a good one...

Somebody is brewing....

A basic Petite Saison that I brewed with an ounce of Pacific Gem instead of the usual hops. 3 week old bottle.

It screams fuggles as it gets near... when you taste it fuggles scream back, and then the pepper and spices pile on, and it finishes tart and refreshing.

I think it's awesome, but for someone who didn't like the kind of flavor that fuggles brings it would be borderline undrinkable. Which must be why I keep reading that people who have tried to make IPA/APA like beers wth this hop have made what they considered undrinkable beers.

Don't use it unless you love fuggles.

EDIT: the more this warms up the better it gets. It might be the best beer I've brewed all summer. But you have to love fuggles. And Herbrucker too... it's got some of that earthy Tabaco like vibe going on that you get if you use a bunch of Herbrucker late in the boil as a flavor/aroma addition.

This hop is weird. I'm loving it, but I do understand why some people hate it now. It's nothing at all like any American hop.

I think fuggles may be the reason that I haven't brewed a good brown ale yet. It's either that or the EKG that seem to be the natural pairing for an english brown. I think I need to go more towards the American Brown that some people are putting out now using Citra and Nelson Sauvin hops.

I think the english hops are what are holding me back from those. But oddly enough I love Firestone's Double Barrel Oak. Go figure.

If you are using both EKG and Fuggles, maybe try an all EKG version. That will get rid of the earthiness and just give you the spicy/floral/light citrus vibe.

OR you could try to substitute Styrians for the Fuggles. I believe the double barrel uses Styrians instead of Fuggles. Styrian Goldings are Fuggles, but grown in totally different soil conditions, so they taste different.

I threw more of this stuff in the fridge, I'm calling it good to go at 3 weeks.
