SCORE! Non Beer Related

Post by Chuck N »

As I stated in the title; this isn't beer related but this is only forum I go to any more and I just have to brag about my purchase. :jumpy:

Twice a year my town has a city wide garage sale. Now if any of you guys have ever gone to one of these you know that the vast majority of items being sold are for babies and school kids. Great if you're an expecting parent or looking to send your rug-rats off to school well dressed on the cheap. But if you're a middle-aged guy with no kids at home you're just going to complain about the massive increase in traffic going up and down the street.

Well this year the local Rod and Gun club was doing a sale at the local Legion club and it promised to be very interesting. So I went. Lots of guns and gun accessories. Fishing equipment and lots and lots of other stuff I don't really need but love to look at. But I really needed a scope for my deer hunting rifle. Seen several off-brand ones for anywhere from $20.00 to $50.00 but I didn't want to buy junk at any price. Several more that were obviously used - not surprisingly - at some decent prices but I kept looking.

Then I spotted it. In the corner of a corner booth that was hard to get to. A Leupold 3-9X40 scope. New in box! I knew this scope retails for around $350.00+ and this guy was asking $140.00. I asked him what was wrong with it and he told me (he's kind of a local guy and I know him so I was sure he wasn't some fly-by-night shiester) that it was taking up space in his gun safe and he just wanted to get rid of it. I couldn't keep my hand from shaking as I wrote out the check.

So now it's off to Gander Mountain to get it mounted on to my rifle then, tomorrow, it's to the range to get it sighted in. YeeeHaa!

That's a great buy. Those deer better look out, what kind of rifle are you putting it on?

Very nice....I wish we could use rifles in Ohio. We are limited to shotgun and muzzleloader. I've got a Thompson Center Triumph muzzleloader. It's the next best thing to a centerfire rifle.

We can use rifles only in northern Minnesota. The southern end is the same as you; shotgun and M-Ls. I also have a .54 cal Hawkins style side-lock from Cabelas. I love that gun.

"Filled with mingled cream and amber
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chambers of my brain

Come to life and fade away;
Who cares how time advances?
I am drinking ale today."
