My first Brewhouse kit

My first Brewhouse kit
Well starting a new adventure this week. I just picked up a brewhouse kit for a honey ale. Not knowing what was involved, I opened up the kit and ....found a giant bag of wort.
yes....a big ole bag of wort.
Also found ph balancer for the water I am adding to the wort I am assuming, big package of coopers yeast, dextrose already measured for priming , and the instructions.
Reading it I laughed out loud...pretty much went like this.
Take bag
Dump in bucket
add water
add yeast
see you in two weeks.
of course the ph balancer needs to be added to the wort but still.....if you've been brewing for a fair bit, this kit seems incredibly simple.
Ill try and post pics as I go through the motions on this one once the weather here calms down.
Still 25 degrees here in bc!

Never heard of that one before. Please do keep us posted and if you are saying it is 25F there again. I think for cold weather fermenting there is an aquarium heater a lot of people talk about using to regulate temps.

Those kits are basically made for you "aussie no chill" wort. Except in a bag instead of a jerry can or HDPE container.

LMAO.
ok ....today was interesting.
I was going to put pictures on this one and then.....well....here it goes.
I sanitized everything like a good boy, put my ph balancer in with 8 litres of water as per instructions.
then put into my ole 5 gallon carboy (make note of that 5 gallon part)
I then proceeded to open the big bag o wort to put into the carboy when ....I popped the lid assuming there was a wine tap inside....there wasn't.
Just a big ole hole for all the wort to spill out of....(it gets better)....
Thankfully I had my funnel out so i did not lose much and as I pour the wort into the 5 gallon carboy (note that part again)....I begin to notice(wait for it...)...the box says 6 gallon kit(there ya go).
As I pause in shock at this new turn of events I realize my carboy is about to overflow. What to do.
Thankfully a quick head had me pull out my lbk ....pop some oxysan in everything (30 second contact time ftw).
I then rush to grab my 2 jars of eden barley extract and add them to 4 litres of water ( gallon of wort still in the bag after all).
I quickly dump the mixture into the lbk, then to ensure I get some of the PH balancer in the brew, I dump some of the mixed wort from my carboy into my lbk....only I had the spigot open.
After I clean that up I proceed to santize all the taps , the outside of the carboy...and then dare I say it...I have the balls to pitch the coopers yeast into the lbk and carboy and call it a day.
With all my frantic wizardry thinking fasy, the gravity is at 1.054 for both the lbk and the carboy (outfreakin standing!!)
But what the heck happened to this being...well...easy?

You SIR have the makings of becoming a seriously fine brewer. Way to go on reacting on the fly like that.

So what you're saying is that you had a normal brew day like the rest of us. Glad it all worked out in the end.

ty all. just checked the lbk and it is overflowing with krausen and the carboy is bubbling with about inch and a half of kraussen. Dare I say it... I may get out of this alive hopefully lol.

k guys this morning krausen jumped to two inches and had to chear a tonne of over flow on the lbk. Got home from work now. carboy has calmed right down. Took a sample from the lbk. so far so very good. Very smooth. Wow what a fermentation though. Looks like my beer may be saved.

transferred the beer to second car boy and lbk yesterday. Still no prblems with beer so far ....smells like beer for sure . Should be interesting in a couple weeks if I have officially saved this brew. Planning on priming with extra honey to add more to the aroma...I think with all my mishaps that the honey notes kinda got lost in the brew.
