One of my co-workers gave me some Serebrianka hops, here is a recipe for using them in a batch I'm brewing up
Serebrianka IPA
(2.4 gallons all-grain)
OG = 1.072 FG = 1.014
IBU = 64 SRM = 5 ABV = 7.4%
Ingredients:
4.8lbs. Pilsner malt
1.96 lbs. Pale malt
7.68oz Carapils malt
Warrior hops (60 mins) (11 grams at 17.8% alpha acids)
Serebrianka hops (15 mins) (1 oz.at 3.5% alpha acids)
Serebrianka hops (5 mins) (1oz.at 3.5% alpha acids)
1 oz. Serebrianka hops (dry hop)
Irish moss (15 min)
Safale American US-05 yeast
Step-by-Step
This is a single step infusion mash. Mash the grains at 156 °F (69 °C) for 40 minutes, then raise mash to 168 °F (76 °C) over 10 min and rest at 168 °F (76 °C) for another 10 minutes. Sparge with 170°F (79 °C) water. This will be a 90-minute boil due to the amount of Pilsner malt to help drive off DMS. Add other ingredients as indicated. Once the boil is complete, chill the wort to 75 °F (24 °C) and transfer to fermenting vessel. Aerate the wort and pitch the rehydrated yeast. Ferment at 68 °F (20 °C) for 7 days and then add dry hops.

New to me also; they have an aroma similar to Noble hops like Hallertau or Tettnanger. I saw a recipe in BYO magazine for an IPA using continental hops, so I thought I would try it that way.BlackDuck wrote:I've never heard of those hops. What are they like?

Very nice...you should get a good idea what they offer with your recipe. Warrior is a great bittering hop that should leave all the rest to the Serebrianka hops. Please keep us posted after you drink it.

Re: Serebrianka IPA
Never heard of them. Bing'd them, this is what I found:
SEREBRIANKA Hop Leaf Serebrianka (Ser-uh-bri-onk-uh):
Alpha Acid: 2.3%
Aroma hop with a light perfume, mellow, elegant, subtle, gentle, almost tobacco like smell.

They sound a lot like Hallertauer Hersbrucker to me. Which is not a bad thing.
