Chocolate Cherry Oatmeal Stout

Post by ssorck »

So on my ongoing quest to use up my Mr. Beer refills I decided to cook up my St. Pattys Irish Stout...

1 Can Mr. Beer St. Pattys Irish Stout
2 cups oatmeal
2 LME Robust
2/3 cup Brown Sugar
1/2 cup hersheys cocoa powder
1/2 oz. fuggles
2 cans sweet dark cherries in heavy syrup
2 packs Mr. Beer Yeast

1) Brought 6 cups water to a boil
2) Added oats in a hop bag steeped for 20 minutes at 158.
3) added 1 pouch Robust LME, Brown Sugar and hops, boiled 7 minutes (stirred until sugar dissolved)
4) took off flame and stirred in cocoa powder
5) brought back to boil, Flameout and added 1 LME pack and HME
6) added to Mr. Beer Fermenter in the usual method, aerated and added 2 packs re-hydrated Mr. Beer yeast

7) will add pureed cherries 1 week into fermentation

OG was 1.053, sample was tasty and pitch black. I'm looking forward to seeing how she turns out...
