Shutdown

Post by Beer-lord »

So, it appears our government has been shut down. How's it affecting you?
Me, depending on how long it goes on, it'll affect my business but for now, nothing. I have one brother that works for government contractors with keeping computer systems running. He works from home and remotes in to whatever and wherever they need him. He was told not to work until this is over. They'll likely pay him for 1 week and after that, it's vacation time or nothing.

I did see how the new, first day of the health exchanges that the website has shutdown. It's kind of funny I guess.

I predict this will be over by the weekend if not sooner. My personal opinion is that EVERYONE in office now should be canned and we should start over from scratch. But, please, let's not make this a political thread, let's just discuss how the shutdown will affect you and those you know. I'm curious just how far and deep this goes and don't trust what I read and hear in the news.

It's not immediately affecting me, not in any noticeable way anyway. I work at a Sam's Club tire shop, so I'll keep earning my paycheck (thank goodness). I pay just about all of my bills online so I don't have to worry about the mail system not delivering any payment checks where they need to go. For those that are affected by this, I hope it ends soon.

I believe the Gubment's been "shut down" for better than twenty years now. It's just that now it's official.

I'm founding a new political party. I'm going to call it the Anti-Incumbent Party. It's just like it says; When you get into the voter's booth and you start to check off who you're going to vote for you just never vote for the Incumbent. No matter what party he/she is affiliated with. We just keep flip-flopping dumbocrats for restumplecants and visa-verse. Eventually we're going to get rid of these "Professional Politicians and get some people in there that really know what's going on down here in the trenches.
Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.

Here is a list on exactly what effects the government shutdown will have. I really don't see where it is a huge catastrophe and will save us some money.

So far, it has not affected me a lot, but long term, it may hurt a bit more. I am going to school on the GI Bill, my tuition is already covered this semester and I received my September housing stipend today. They say education benefits won't be affected, but I was told yesterday the VA will close on Thursday. I work for the VA as my school's benefits representative. As of today, I won't be paid while the government is shutdown. I get paid every 50 hours I work, and I haven't received my paycheck from when I submitted it in September. I don't know if I will get it now, it's direct deposited and I should have gotten it already. As far as the paycheck I submitted for yesterday, good luck to me on that one. My rent is paid up for this month, and I should get my housing payments still, but if not then we can scrape by on my wife's paycheck, but without me getting paid at my job there won't be a whole lot of disposable income. This definitely hampers my brewing. I was going to order some supplies when I got my paycheck, but now it looks like even if I get it I should probably save it.

We will see how it affects everyone. Hopefully it will not last long. Will it directly affect me? I got my military pension and VA disability comp check electronically delivered to my bank account this morn, so far so good. My wife works for the gov. in civil service. They were all told to stay home, no work - no pay starting today. Then my wife was told her position is ..... I forget the word, but she is necessary so show up to work. She works in the hospital. She won't get paid for working until the bullshyte is over but she will get all back pay, so it won't kill us this month, but it's going to be very tight! My income will pay the bills with bout $100 left over for the month. I hope.

So yea, it does affect me as in if I don't have the ingredients to brew, I'm not going to til it's done. Dayum them, I hate ALL politicians! Not bashing them, but you know, if THEIR eff'n pay was tied to the budget, this would have been done some time ago, just sayin....

As far as I know I won't be affected at all. I'm all for an Anti-Incumbent Party. It's a shame these politicians have allowed themselves to get paid but stop average Joe's from getting paid.

aw poo! my post didn't post! It's all FIT's fault!
Nah... just kidding.
I can't see where it's going to bother me. Army Ret. & VA pay are direct deposit. also, constitutionally protected. Now if I wanted to go to the national parks... well, sobbies, tuff noogies for me.

Shouldn't effect me, I work as an LNG plant operator for a local utility. I do get a VA disability check and it when for this month, so far so good. I don't see it going much longer, by Friday they'll be back to taking our money and trying to get re-elected.

So far today the shop is jamming! I've got 7 vehicles going right now. If it goes on very long then the seniors get nervous and don't fix ther cars , sooooo we'll see. I think BOTH Houses should work for FREE till they resolve it ! But I'm not totally stupid . :laugh :laugh

Heard from my wife... she has mixed feelings, as in they came in and said Dolly (me better half), u stay, your needed and not furloughed. Then they sent the others home.. she's not happy most everyone (civilians, the active duty folks were not hit) pretty much got laid off. She feels bad about it (for the others).

OK, WHAT AN ASS!!! THE CHOSEN one is on the tube pointing fingers. Just how the hell is this showing the US and the world he is a leader????
Eff'n moron. Just for the record, *I* did not vote for the moron! Sorry for the rant, but he is such a freaking LOOSER!

I'm home right now with no pay. I registered for unemployment just in case it goes on awhile. If you go back to work before 2 weeks is up, you get nothing. There is a chance that they'll pay the furloughed workers back bay retroactively, but that depends on the politicians voting to do it. In the meantime, I've been pretty close to living from paycheck to paycheck, so it's gonna be tricky. I mean, they froze our pay since January 2010, then they sent us home without pay a few days this year already, then they took away our annual bonus for superior performance, so it's been tough. This could drive me to drinking.

Around here, the roads and bridges are crumbling. I heard a report that violent crime is on the rise and drugs are everywhere. I think my lawn may have stopped growing. On the way home from the store today, I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac. I didn't look back.
