Shutdown

Well, I have a plant that keeps asking me to feed it...not sure what to do.

We don't know yet. Hope we get our check on time. Fridge broke, vacuum repair and new front brakes and rotors on the wheelchair van. All in an already tight month.

I went to the store and bought a bunch of dried beans and have some beef in the freezer still so for now we eat. Next month......

For me personally this is the way I see how it'll effect me: There isn't going to be a Gubment Inspector coming in to pass or fail our welds. That means the "inspection booth" is going to get full. Real full if this goes on for a while. Other than that work will pretty much continue on as normal.

Until this comes to an end. Then all that work that will have been waiting to be inspected will get passed or failed. The work that fails (not too much, I hope) will need to be fixed and re-inspected and the work that passes will need to get their cover passes put in. All the while the scheduled work will continue to come through. This means that I'll be getting some over-time ( a rarity for me because of my low seniority). This could lead to a better-than-anticipated Christmas.

I always look for the silver lining.

While I am not fond of the way our President has been leading, or anyrthing else for that matter, there is more than enough stuff to go around. This is not just one party acting like spoiled brats, it is a breakdown of the system as we know it. I could go on forever, as most of you could too, so I'll just add one thing that bugs me. (not necesarily the most) When some yahoo that was elected talks for two days straight because his shorts are in a bunch and doesn't want to try to work things out. Really, a grown man reading from a Dr. Suess book? And he isn't the only one, both parties are guilty of wasting our money that way.

Let's pay our elected officials by how much they accomplish...

I'm lucky in that I won't be affected directly by the shutdown, until someone sticks their hand in my pocket for more money....

I contract with one of the Federal software maintainers. Right now we are not facing any furloughs but the agency we work for is. Which causes issues for us getting things done. I don't think we will be affected by this directly unless it goes over 30 days.

It should not effect me, except for certain clients that might have their business slow down due to lack of government purchasers or funding. But luckily for me I don't have too many clients like that, and the ones I do are kind of annoying anyways LOL. I can still get into my local national park and do stuff, because it has dozens of roads that enter it from all directions a river runs through it as well as a big bit of an 80 mile long path that extends beyond the borders of it on both sides. There are no gates, there is no way to "close" it. They will close some buildings, but I never go in them anyways.

Right now my office gets to keep working until we run out of money, which should be around Friday, after that if this stupidity continues myself and my 24 employees will be furloughed, again. Last week was the first full paycheck we had gotten since July.
Financially I can take the hit for while, but I worry about some of my team members with young families or unemployed spouses who are still recovering from the summer furlough.

The US Gov't is too large, bloated and spends far too much money as it is. Shutting it down for a few weeks isn't a bad thing. I hope this continues for a long time.

It's not like the Chief Incompetent in the Oval Office has submitted or passed an actual budget in 5 years anyway. Keep passing Special Resolutions in your Democrat controlled Congress and no problem.

That's my rant for today.

All the Congressional "leadership", both parties, should resign.

No one in Congress, nor any of their staff, should be paid a dime. Take your pain with your constituents.

NO exceptions should be made on the shutdown. Close everything - parks, monuments, everything but Social Security, Medicare, and the like. I don't want to see Veterans allowed into monuments - I want them to roll on over to Congress and stare into the faces of our Congressmen and Congresswomen until they are so embarrassed and ashamed that they start working together or quit.

Sign me up for the anti-incumbent party.

My proposal: add 2 years to the length of every federal political office's term: give the House 4-year terms...the Prez 6-year terms...Senators 8-year terms -- and after your ONE term, GOODBYE. No re-elections. No time wasted fundraising. Your actions in office can't hurt your chances for re-election, so you might as well do the right thing for the country, whether it's popular or not.
We'd get people running for office who want to do the right thing -- not people who want to make a career out of smiling to our faces while they're pissing on our shoes. And the shoes of future generations.
Campaign on your beliefs. Govern for the common good. Then get out of the way and let 2 other guys/gals fight to take your spot.
I think this is a necessary first step to regaining our governmental sanity.
