Instead of anti-incumbent, I would suggest anti-establishment.

As in if you declare as a democrat or a republican, or only vote in a block with said parties, then you are not worthy of being in office. You should vote to serve your districts needs, not your own, not your corporate overlords, and not just because some #*$#$ in your party says you should vote that way or they will not help you get re-elected. If that's all you are about - getting re-elected - then you are nothing but pond scum.

At the level of the federal government, both parties are just simply owned by special interests, and do not serve their constituents honestly. They may pretend to. But they do not.

The 'Shutdown' hasn't directly affected me and my family yet, but it could happen. Saw on the news that the state unemployment disbursement program is partially federally funded and people administering the program may be furloughed, which could interrupt unemployment disbursement. My wife was laid off this summer and my oldest daughter was laid off several weeks ago. I think the state will step in and provide funding to cover the gap, but the governor is looking for assurances that the Feds will come up with the $ after the shutdown ends.

Bad thing going on! How many of ya'll know that not all DOD civil service got furloughed? My wife is one that was told she is required to work, won't be furloughed. There would be extensive problems if she did not work. BUT, she is working without pay.... however long it goes on, she is working for free. I'm on disability, how long is that going to be funded? Sure going to make it easy to make house payments... think the bank will take nothing for house payments? I would say... no. We could survive for a few months, but not much longer. BUT, when the bullshit is over, she will be back-paid for the time she worked, so she will eventually be paid, but when? AND, doing it that way, the government is already writing checks with money they DO NOT HAVE. When they get the crap settled, the money is previously spent. The question is, just how long is it going to take for these morons to pull their heads out of their ass? This goes to show they do not give a damn about the people, only themselves and their buddies. Eff the rest is what they are proving on a daily basis. #1 jackass is refusing to discuss the problem, #1 jackass will veto any bill he sees if his socialist destructive *LAW* is not funded. #1 jackass should be impeached before he puts the final nail in the coffin lid on the USA. Every damn one of those morons, yes, BOTH parties should be fired, we seriously need to start over, it is getting worse and worse year by year. It is sickening the bills they pass to ensure they get paid, they don't have to live by the rules/laws they pass. Every time they do, they go against the constitution big time.

rant over, for a couple minutes.

Kinda sounds like "we" all moved over here in the first place. OK, maybe they weren't exactly like the politicians of today, but the taxing part is pretty spot on...

I'm active duty, and while I'll still get paid (so we've been told) many of the services put in place to assist soldiers and their families are shut down. Currently I can't make any new doctors appointments, so I hope I don't get sick or injured unless it's severe enough to require a hospital visit. I believe this also goes into mental health services for wounded warriors and those with PTSD or trying to get over substance abuse because of PTSD, along with veteran care. I'm not sure, but I'm assuming transportation, finance, and readiness offices are closed, making an already tough transition for new soldiers/families and also those coming up on new assignments, even tougher. I'm not directly affected (yet), but I know my fellow brothers and sisters in arms and their families are or will be if this doesn't end soon.

The thing that bothers me the most is members of Congress get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, along with benefits they get from support groups. Not only would a pay cut from them put millions back into the budget, they are still getting paid while they try to figure all this out. I'm sure if they were the ones being affected by shutdowns and no pay, they would have worked something out long ago.

Thank-you for your service! Hang in there, there was a bill passed to ensure military personel get paid.

My wife is a Mental Health professional, they, atleast here, are still taking care of the needed. She picked up a new client today, so they are still working. But, they only kept 2 of them, sent the rest home so it will be available, but limited I'm sure.

What I don't understand is if it's a Government of the people, by the people and for the people then why is it that, when the people we send to Washington to represent us can't get the job that we sent them to do done, we have to suffer? Why are the National Parks and the National Monuments closed? Why are all of these Government programs suspended? It's not like the money isn't there or won't be there. This should come across as a gross example of just how huge and bloated we've allowed our Federal Government to become. And the fact that we just accept the fact that since the "government" is shut down then our country has to come to a halt until "it" comes back should shame each and every one of us. Why is it that the "government" continues on as normal when Congress is out of session? The Parks and Monuments remain open then.

This country is in dire need of a major diaper changing.
Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.

I posted earlier in this thread that we were allowed to work until we run out of funding, which will probably be late today or early Monday.
So, concerns for mine and my employees financial well being aside, I'm also concerned about the effects shutting down could have on the country.

What will it do to the economy if the Corps of Engineers shuts down river commerce because we cant pay the lock operators?
What happens if our levee inspectors cant go out and check dams and levees after TS Karen goes through this weekend?

Like FIT's wife, some of our folks responsible for public safety will continue to work, without pay, but a large part of the support structure for those functions will be shut down, which will reduce the effectiveness of those functions.

I may not be able to work on Monday, but that won't stop me from caring about my job, my employees, and the effects our not being there will have on our country.

That died when it became big money from lobbyist. Now it's how can I screw the people over and make more money for me and mine? When they voted to go against the constitution and make laws that they are exempt from, it took away any incentive to do their job. Just look at how long it has been since they have passed a budget. The only thing they now pass is continuing resolutions. This will never fix the problem, only keep adding to our woes as a country.

Amen to that! We need to elect Hannity! He believes we need an American revolution. I totally agree with that, we need to fire everyone of these idiots and put ppl in office that will end the bullshyte we have and start over again, center ALL laws/taxes, etc around what we were founded on, the constitution!! I firmly believe we should really start this by firing the moron, the illegal alien we have as our .... supreme leader.... that represents no one cept other socialist.
