LOML and I went to a rendezvous yesterday.

This here is a "wall gun". A .98 cal. 18th century sniper rifle that was mounted to the fort walls and used to take out the opposing army's communications (dispatch runners, drummers, flag bearers).

Here's an 8lb artillery piece and it's "crew" used during the Indian wars.

Here's that gun being fired. A half pound of powder pushing out a 10lb projectile makes for one hell of a big boom!

Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.

That is some cool stuff. While I'm not a re enactment follower, every couple years I go to one to get my fix. Always a good time.

I'd love to take a few shots with that bad boy. I don't think it will outshoot my Remington 700 SPS, but it would be fun to try.

Dat's what I sport most days. Mines a 7MM Mag, what's urs? Ya gotta shoot some pretty long distances here.

I own a 308. But sometimes I do insane target shooting with a 300 magnum 700 at 600+ yard range with my x-Marine friends. But I'd not want to shoot a 300 magnum all the time, it hurts and it's totally unnecessary for hunting around here. The 7MM would be a good in between rifle I think, although it probably still would still knock me around a bit, I'm a skinny dude. When I shoot the 300 I get bruises. But it's fun if you want to see just how far you can shoot.

My favorite video of his is How To Uninstall McAfee Antivirus. It is a bit NSFW though.

I've known people who have paid big bucks to a chiropractor to do the same thing to their neck.
