I brewed a batch today. It felt great to get back to making beer again.
I made my last Mr Beer batch. Next stop is biab.
I think that I screwed up when rehydrating the yeast. I used US -05 and rehydrated at 100. I pitched it at 83.00.
I'm still trying to remember what I learned. It's all pretty new to me and I'm amazed at how much I forgot.
Next batch will be better.
I'm back!

Re: I'm back!
I made a recipe that docdp recommended to use up my ingredients.
Use both cans of HME
Use the lb of amber DME
In the DME boil
Hallertau .25 oz for 35 minutes
Hallertau .25 oz for 15 minutes
Cascade .25 oz for 10 min
Cascade .25 oz dry hop at day 14 in fermenter
Use the US-05 yeast, the whole pack
I added :
75 lbs carared
.75 lbs CaraMunich
Both grains were steeped for an hour at 160 degrees.
I made a frankenbeer.

Well, Hallertau and Cascase should be nice together...Banjo-guy wrote:I made a recipe that docdp recommended to use up my ingredients.

But 75 pounds of CaraRed seems like a lot...
( so I'm sure you meant .75 lbs )
The hour steep at 160 seems a bit much though... 30 minutes would be fine as they are not going to convert without some 2-row or 6-row in there...
Looks good though over all... Enjoy!

It's amazing the difference a decimal point makes!

Yes. You can never underestimate the importance of proper punctuation.Banjo-guy wrote:It's amazing the difference a decimal point makes!
As an example:
"Let's go eat Grandpa." will get you locked away in some sort of asylum.
But, "Let's go eat, Grandpa." will get you a lovingly created home-cooked meal.

Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.
