Virginia Beach Craft Beer Festival

Post by Sparrow »

So sometimes living in VB has it's advantages, like next weekend when we will be having a craft beer fest. http://www.beachstreetusa.com/festivals ... r-festival
Devils Backbone is a Virginia brewery that just won 6 medals and Small Brewing Company Brewer of the Year @ the Great American Beer Festival. I can get a few of their beers locally, but I'm looking forward to trying some I can't get locally.

Most of the VA local breweries I'm familiar with. Anybody see anything on the list below that I should go out of my way to try?
O'Connor Brewing Company
St. George Brewing Company
Legend Brewing Company
Ale Werks Brewing Company
Starr Hill Brewing Company
Smartmouth Brewing Company
Devils Backbone Brewing Company
Back Bay Brewing Company
Heavy Seas Brewing Company
Goose Island Brewing Company
Southern Tier Brewing Company
Weyerbacher Brewing Company
New Belgium Brewing Company
Harpoon Brewing Company
Oskar Blues Brewing Company
Victory Brewing Company
Gordon Biersch Brewing Company
Red Hook Brewing Company
Widmer Brewing Company
Kona Brewing Company
Dominion Brewing Company
Lagunitas
Commando Brewing Company

Bosteels Brewing Company
Van Steenburge Brewing Company
Bold Rock Hard Cider Company

I'd say Lagunitas, Kona, Southern Tier, in that order. I've had some of the others that were okay too (Oskar Blues, Weyerbacher, Heavy Seas, Goose Island) but prefer the former. Tastes vary.

Never mind, there it is.

Yeah, I'm sure it's hard living in a resort community the other 364 days of the year...
I have over 9,000 posts on "another forum", which means absolutely nothing. Mr. Beer January 2014 Brewer of the Month with all the pomp and circumstance that comes with it...

So 2 recommendations for Lagunitas so far, so I'll make a bee line for their tent. I can get and have had the IPA and Lil Sumpin locally. Hop Stoopid sounds right up my ally!

@ Rick, yea, actually VB is pretty decent as home towns go. Been in the area my entire 49+ years, so they must be doing something right

My wife an I usually go to Va Beach this week every year for our anniversary.

Lagunitas for sure (Hop Stoopid - FTW). Southern Tier too, they make a bunch of good brews. I've gotten my wife hooked on their Creme Brûlée Stout, good stuff in that bottle. Weyerbacher makes some good brews too, one of these weekends I'm gonna get out there for a brewery tour.

I'd have to get in line for at least one of the hard ciders since it is on my want to do list.
